28mm Choices

Hey guys, this is probably an oft-asked question, and if so feel free to send me to a previous thread, but...

I'm looking for a prime lens in the 28mm neighborhood for my K7, of which the are many. I'm seeing Pentax, Vivitar, Sigma, and even something called Phase 2 CCT (?) - all in roughly the same price range. Which would you guys recommend?

Bear in mind, when it comes to color, IQ, contrast, etc I am in love with my Pentax-A 50mm 2.0, I just want something a little wider. So maybe something similar.

If you want something similar, the SMC Pentax-A 28mm f2.8 won't disappoint, though I'm tempted to recommend the fa 31mm limited

The SMC F 28mm f2.8 is a great bang for your buck.

I like my FA28/2.8. The A24/2.8 is good too, as is the A28.

It's so easy to spend other people's money

I've also been thinking about a manual 28 as the warranty repair on my DA35/2.4 is taking rather too long...

F or FA28 are indeed great bang for buck... And they are also holding price very well so if you change your mind you lose nothing...

I have the m 28 2.8 and it is great, but getting a step up for auto aperture is definitely worth it. I do enjoy using the old lenses on the new camera. If you can swing the large purchase go for the 31. I love the length of the 35 too, but it sounds like that might not be wide enough for you.

Lately, I've been walking around with my Sigma SuperWide 24mm f2.8. On the crop sensor it's a wideish "normal". And it's quite sharp. I purchased it used for less than $100 including shipping last winter but haven't really tried it out until this last week or so. I'm totally impressed. It's only drawback is that it tends to overexpose, but that's easy to overcome with about -1 stop dialed in to the exposure compensation button.

I've also got the M28 2.8. It's a very good lens and they go really cheap. Wonderful colors and excellent sharpness at f8.

Thanks, everyone! You've confirmed my gut instinct - to go with the SMC A or M 28/2.8. You've been more than helpful. And I would love to get my hands on the 31 limited, too! It's just a matter of time before I succumb, I suppose. many lenses..

There was a thread recently with several test photos from 28mm lenses similar to what you are talking about purchasing.
