FA28f2.8 VS FA*24f2

I'm looking for something to use with my k10d like a 35mm.
Reading the varius reviews, the FA28 has good rates and it's an economy lens.
The FA*24 is more expansive, and the reviews are different, some positive some negative.

What do you think?

Thanks
Angelo

There are also the Zeiss ZK 25 f2.8 and ZK 28 f2 in that FL range. I belive the FA 24 has mixed reviews...

As you noted, the FA*24 has mixed reviews, with most saying it perform better on film than on digital. However I have never owned the lens myself so can't comment on it.

I do have FA28/2.8 and really enjoy using it. I used to own FA35 too but I find it just a little too long for my liking, even though it might be sharper wide open and more contrasty.

If you want AF, then you have got two other choices, Sigma 28/1.8 EX DG and 30/1.4 EX DC. The thing with Sigma lenses seems to be that if you get a good copy, it is really good. So if you do decide to get Sigma, make sure you can exchange the lenses easily if they are faulty.

cheers
Kenny

You can check this links for comments on these two lens:

Brief Comments

FA28 looks like a better choice then FA*24 based on these feedbacks.

You can also consider the Sigma 24mm and 28mm. Popphoto reviewed them with positive comments:

FA*24 suffers from poor corner performance. If you read photozone.de review, you'll understand why some hate it, some praise it. However, on 16-9.net, they did a "World Cup for the Ultimate 24mm," the FA*24 was only edged out by the Canon 24/1.4, which is the ultimate 24mm lens. The new Zeiss 25mm went neck to neck with this Canon in performance. If you shoot a lot of 35mm FL in full frame, then 24 is the way to go. Pentax 20-21 isn't as good as other brands'. If you're after the best, then Zeiss 25 is your must, though I think all the new Zeiss are overpriced.

The FA24 has slightly worse corner performance compared to the FA28/2.8, but the comparison is a little unfair, because the FA24 is an f2.0 lens.
Superfast lenses are always a little soft wide open.
Interestingly the FA24 shows better contrast wide open than the FA28.

In my view both the FA28 and the FA24 are top performers on the K10D.
I have them both and am satisfied.
