Comparison DA 70 versus FA 77

QuoteOriginally posted by NaClH2O Quote
Thanks for the comprehensive review James, maybe this should be also posted over the in the lens review section. I have one question. I have seen it posted (either here or over at that other place) that the 77 isn't as sharp wide open as the DA 70mm ltd pancake. And yes I realize that the 77 is f1.8 and the 70 is 2.4. Could anyone who has owned or used both comment on this? I've wanted to get the 77 for the longest time, but the 70mm is considerably cheaper and easier to find. Obviously a subjective opinion but I would like to hear which one is the "better" lens.

NaCl(if I win the lotto, I won't have to worry and can buy both, but...)H2O

Hello, maybe forum member Volosong could help on this question. He wrote in the review section the following story:

"If lenses were an alter at which we worship . . . I would bow down to the mighty SMC-P FA 77 f/1:1.8 Limited deity. It is 'that' perfect. The only comparison I can make is to Italian Campagnolo cycling components. Sometimes, one just doesn't want to use them because they are such works of art. Such is the FA77/1.8 lens. It has evolved that I only use this lens when I want to "show off" and impress people, especially photographers who use other competing brands of cameras and optics. For 'normal' work, I'll use the DA70 Limited instead.

Extremely Highly Recommended. Given a 10 rating because . . . well, there isn't anything better."

You could ask him to write some more about this in this thread.
Good luck!

This lens is a great reason to buy a Pentax DSLR. I never was a Pentax guy, but this lens and the 31 Limited were big reasons I did not go Canon.

From the 2008 Boston Marathon, K10D, ISO 100, f6.7 at 1/500s

And one more from a spring snow fall.

James, these are some of the best examples from the 77ltd I've ever seen, I think. I hadn't seen this thread before... Bravo.
