HOYA 49mm HMC UV(C) Multi-Coated Filter

I prefer filter to prevent accidental bumps and scrapes. Plus I'd much rather prefer cleaning the front of the filter element over cleaning the front lens element even if it's with microfiber or lenspens.

Exactly my thoughts. That said, Hoya HMC filters are miles better than $1 filters. I use them on all my lenses, but I use them instead of caps, in fact, treat them as "transparent caps", that is, while I often shoot with them on, I don't hesitate to remove them if the lighting conditions call for it.

Its only between the ears though, but who cares if it gives you peace of mind go for it =]
