Are you trying to use both on a Nikon or Pentax body and if so which one?

If you are using Pentax you will want the A50/1.7. As an A lens it will have full functionality on a Pentax DSLR other than AF. The non-AI version of the Nikkor can be force fit to a Pentax DSLR, but it will act like an M42 lens.

Someone who owns a Nikon. If you have marketplace access here, you could try that. Or Ebay.

Both lenses are quite different and have strengths in different areas. I would have thought that the A 50 f1.7 would be the best fit for most scenarios.

On a Pentax camera, undoubtably the Pentax lens will be better. There will be significant extra functionality, and the lens is great.

The Nikon will only sort of even *fit* on your camera. Their mounts are different. If you don't understand that, then you definitely want the Pentax lens.

As others have said, the Pentax-M 50mm f1.7 is a sized matched pair with an M Series Pentax while a Nippon Kogaku 50mm f1.4 works best on a Nikon that can utilize a none AI lens.

Make a small simple comparison. Shoot brick wall or something than some bokes and for final try them with sunlight in the frame to see which one is better handling the lights.
I have tried both and none of them is ultimate 50mm for every job. But the Nikkor is crazy sharp and contrasty at 1.4, maybe 2 times better than takumar 50 1.4 or other pentax 50 1.4! And the nikkor has 7 aperture blades instead of the hideous 6 straight blades of the 50 1.7 pentax.
Compare them and decide.

I didn't see a picture of the Nikkor lens you have with 7 blades so maybe you are comparing to a newer version? Below is a picture of the Nippon Kogaku NIKKOR-S Auto 50mm f1.4 I have and it only has 6 blades. The blade pattern shown below is prominent between wide open and f2.8. There were lots of revisions to the 50mm f1.4 at Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 non-Ai Standard Lenses - Version History - Part II but it doesn't seem to list number of blades along the way. They do show pictures of which ones are Nippon Kogaku and which aren't.

Correction as obviously in wide open position you won't see the blades. I meant to say that this blade pattern shows up after stopping down from wide open to f2.8.
