I just checked myKENKO Pz-AF 1.5X TELEPLUS SHQand the pin/contact array is identical to the above.
And yours works fine, right? I would have thought the 6-pin version would have been the one to cause problems. Let's see what Javier finds when he gets home, as he's the one with a complete sample of TCs

I looked at mine and it's the 6-pin version. But as I don't have a K20D or SDM lenses I am of no help to this discussion. I'll just sit quietly and let you guys do all the work.

OK, I'll just say one more thing: if it turns out that the 6-pin version is the one that works on the K20D, you can always use the 7-pin TC by taping up the offending pin.

Yes, both work on the K20D with the DA* 200, though the Kenko less well than the Tamron. Both have worked (with varying results) with other DA and FA lenses on my K100D in trials.............

I remain perplexed at Falconeye's assertion that there are 7 contacts on the body side of the Tamron. I suspect his count was wrong...........

I mixed up lens with body side. Fixed it now in my earlier post.

So yes, a version with 7 contacts on the body side does exist.

No word yet from 'J'.......I just thought I'd add that I can now confirm the K20D - PTX 1.7 - DA* 200 combo works (camera AF, lens MF) with excellent results.........

John, can you post up some pics with the DA*200 and the 1.7TC?
I ordered the lens last night and you have peaked my curiosity.

Your balcony is a lot more interesting than mine! Lovely shot you got there.

John, does the 1.7x have the contacts for SDM (power zoom)?

It does not have SDM contacts as do the other two TCs we've been discussing. I do not know about power zoom as I have never had one. The 1.7 has 7 contact pins on the body side plus the AF slotted socket and six pins on the lens side.

Thanks.......I actually live a rural area.

The Kenko isn't bad at all... I've been told (but have no 1st hand knowledge) that the Kenko and Tamron are actually the same TC. Again that is only have I've read and been told. I haven't taken too many shots with it but here are a couple of examples of the Kenko attached to a Tokina 400mm f/5.6 AT-X (latest version with the tripod colar).

Handheld
Pentax K10D ,Tokina 400mm f/5.6 AT-X
1/500s f/6.7 at 600.0mm iso400 (with 1.5x TC)

Using one of those walking sticks that doubles as a monopod:
Pentax K10D,Tokina 400mm f/5.6 AT-X
1/1000s f/6.7 at 600.0mm iso400(with 1.5x TC)

Handheld trying to Pan (which is why its a little bit softer)
Pentax K10D,Tokina 400mm f/5.6 AT-X
1/1500s f/6.7 at 600.0mm iso400(with 1.5x TC)

What a beautiful day for some picts!

Hey, John...That bird even looks like me....

Well, I have done a little bit of homework. I actually called a tech over at tamron this past wed. He was not able to tell me much, but he did affirm that Tamron did produce two different 1.4tc with the later ones able to support HSM/SDM lenses...Now here is what I was told...and I was writing as quickly as I could...
The HSM.SDM compatible TC is
part number 1.4x pz-af MC4....This is the one I bought at Samys....Works great with my K20D and all my lenses...

My other Tamron 1.4 TC is part number 1.4x pz-af MC...This is the one that does not work...I bought this on eeeekbay....

My Kenko 1.5TC is part number PZ-AF 1.5X TELEPLUS MC and this one also does not work....

The guy also did not know (or want to comment) on kenko or the up coming Pentax TC other than to say, there will be new TC's available by the end of the year.....
