Looked for the tamron 1.4x and none to be found so i ordered the kenko 1.5 from tristate and it arrived yesterday. works very well on my f*300mm, and tamron 70-300mm ld di macro. also tried it with a 500mm mirror lens. heres a link to the posted result:

Since this is still running here're a couple more: K20/DA*300/Tamron 1.4. I still prefer the DA* 200 with the TC, it seems surer in focusing..............

The Kenko 2x MC7 have been tested, but, does anyone have the Kenko 2x MC4 teleconverter with SDM lens that they can test?

While I personally have not tested the Kenko 2x, I have an ''old'' Pentax, Tamron and generic 2x Converter and neither one has worked. The image quality really suffers even with my good glass..But then I am picky about my pictures so take it with a grain of salt.

I recently got a Kenko 2x Pz-AF TELEPLUS MC4; while it is quite good in IQ it will not function with the DA* s with SDM. It may be that if there is and SHQ version (like the 1.5) it would work.

Since this is a TC thread I thought I might ask if anyone has thoughts on or tried the Promaster 1.7x TC. And who manufactures Promaster? No mention of the TC so far. I wonder if it is comparable to the Pentax model.

John,
B&H showed two models of this TC. Which one do you have. The autofocus is not really important to me at this point, because since I have been shooting mostly film, I have gotten quite used to manual focus lenses. Don't get me wrong, autofocus is king, but it will not deter me. IQ is what counts..

Javier, I actually have two, neither of which are nomenclature matches for the B&H item. They are (NIB):
1. KENKO Pz-AF 2x TELLEPLUS MC4 (This is AF but will not work on SDM.)

2. KENKO 2x KAX TELEPLUS MC4 (This is MF, but has contacts for metering.)

The above is the exact ID on the lens. The 4 and 7 refer to the no. of elements

I bought a DA*300 f/4 lens a couple of weeks ago and it doesn't focus (screw or SDM) with the Kenko AF1.5x TC I bought from B&H two weeks prior to that. I'm using a K10D with 1.3 firmware

The TC works perfectly with all my other non-SDM PENTAX AF lenses - but no luck with the DA* and its SDM focusing. The DA*300 works perfectly without the Kenko TC.

Maybe there is something wrong with the TC I received since others have gotten KENKO TCs to focus with SDM. I'll need to send it back to KENKO since B&H's return policy is only 15 days.

The TC was marked liked this:
B&H Sticker: 1.5x AF TELE-CONVERTER f/PENAX AF/C
Factory Sticker: for PENTAX (AF)
Engraving on TC: P/AF 1,5K TELEPLUS MC KENKCO
