It really is nutz....It is a great TC, but $350.00 could go towards a good long lens.

Has been a while since I posted in this thread.

I have been playing with Super Takumar's for a while now .... and seeing as I have a spare M42 adaptor lying around I decided to mount the TC and then put the Pentax adaptor in and shoot.

One thing I have found is that the genuine adaptor moves a bit inside the TC and I am finding focussing on infinioty an issue with my Super Tak 200mm f/4 on it.

Although other ranges are good .. it just seems to be infinity that is an issue so far.

Another thing I found is that ... I was an idiot and forgot to change the rocker switch on the front of the camera to MF ... it was on AF.S and was only trap focussing when the camera though I had focus and then only shot when the warning beep sounded.

I had forgotten that I was still on AF.S on this body (now that I have 2 K10Ds) .. I have found out how much AF can really be a pain.

Anyway ... here's a few pics from mucking around outside.

The second and third look really sharp.
Can you shoot a picture of the rig you used. I am curious to check it out.

These were roughy hand held shots while in the wind ... I wouldn't be surprised if the clover flower is a little soft it was moving when i took the shot.

Here's a couple of shots on the kitchen bench of my other body with the TC and Super Tak on.
It looks kinda big ... but surprisingly it isn;t too weighty .. the Super Takuar 200m f/4 very portable for it's length and metal/glass construction as well.

It's about time I posted some pics. I found this fellow in a local park on my way to work the other day. K10D + Tamron 1.4x + Sigma 70-300mm APO @ 300mm, f/8 (f/11 effective) and ISOs 800 and 1000. It's a red tailed hawk, I believe.

I should add that these were not cropped, just sliced off the top to achieve 4x5 ratio. The hawk was hanging out on the top of this lamp post and didn't seem to care about the people or cars passing by.

Gorgeous Red tail. Does not get much better than that. Mis, I am surprised you where not shooting wide open.

I try to avoid shooting this lens wide open, as it's a bit soft. If I'm attaching the Tamron TC to it, then I'm definitely going to close it down at least one stop to improve IQ. In better light I usually have the lens at f/9-11 when using it with the Tamron TC.

Well, I went out based on Hins recommendations and purchased a promaster 1.7tc...My results are similar to others.

The good,
It's image quality is better than the 2 kenkos I have and far better than any 2X TC i have...It's priced right. I paid less than 80 bucks for mine.

The bad,
It's image quality, does not compare to the Tamron 1.4tc or the Pentax 1.7tc,
It does not work with HSM, it is very slow to auto focus and with this TC, I have quite a few missed shots...

The ugly,
I was using in on a sigma 135-400 F/5.6 LENS...a great lens on its own and with the Tamron 1.4tc, the extra half stop it lost, really hurt it.

The pretty,
It did very well considering It lost 1.5 stops...I know when I stick it onto my fast lenses, (F/2.8 and F/4.0) It will kick butt...

Anyway, here are some samples. Aside from resizing, NO PP work done. They are as they came out of the camera, roughly 100 YARDS AWAY....

Here is 230mm

Here is 680mm

All are hand held with shake reduction on K10D.

Well put J, as Hin has also said it is a very good TC but with the usual limitations; there was a post on the 'Site with No Name' by someone who used the P'master back of the DA 55-300 with pretty good results. I haven't tried that yet.......

8/17 - so here's the K20/P'mstr 1.7/DA 55-300 combo from a few minutes ago; at a deer in the back yard about 50yds away.........

Sorry I didn't reply earlier ... no internet at home.

It's a pretty decent setup with the 200mm on there.
I am tempted to either use my 105/2.8 or 135/3.5 with it and see what the image quality is like.

I just haven't had the time at the moment with work and just getting over the flu and a nasty stomach virus as well in the last week.

OK, I finally received my $43 (!!!) Tamron-F 1.4x Pz-AF MC4 converter from KEH in EX+ condition. I'm going to do some SERIOUS tests this weekend on both my Sigma 500mm f/4.5 APO EX and the SMC Pentax-F* 300mm f/4.5.

On top of that I'll also compare it with the Kenko 1.5c Pz-AF.

So stay tuned

I'm currently trying out the Tamron 1.4x with my new DA 55-300, unsuprisingly early indications are that it loses some sharpness...I'll post more when I've tested it more thoroughly

Please excuse me if I insult your intelligence, but remember to stop down the lens at least 1 stop for optimum results.

I have only one TC image (Kenko 1.5 + DA*200mm) It is an uncropped image. The TC works 100% with the SDM and AF . I have A*300mmF4 as a result of which I hardly use the TC.
