Update from Sigma

Because SDM has only been around since sometime last year and it takes Sigma time to reverse engineer the mount and then figure out how to get some HSM lenses into their production schedule, etc.....

Last I heard was sometime in August (September here we come!)
I just spoke with Sigma (NY); they say the PTX-mounts for their 70-200 and 50-150 lenses with HSM should begin shipping next month. No info on when (or if) others like the BIGMA will get HSM.........

Now that Pentax has released its 1.4x TC, I wonder if we'll see an avalanche of Tamrons hit the used market.

Things I want to know about the Pentax 1.4x TC:
  1. The price.
  2. The IQ.
  3. Whether it will electronically multiply the focal length of the lens by 1.4 so the body registers actual focal length of the lens+TC combo.

If the answer to my third question is "no", then Pentax have shot themselves in the foot.

The Pentax TC isn't out yet but should/hopefully be out in the next month. The Tamron one is discontinued I think but can be found if you look hard enough.

If the Pentax version is weather sealed and has EXCELLENT IQ then I will get it to replace my Kenko 1.5x tc that has been very good for me

If you don't have a 1.4x or 1.5x TC at the moment, I would wait for the Pentax one. I would imagine it will be better than either the Tamron or Kenko and, hopefully, will multiply focal length values so SR works to its full potential.

I suspect that when the Pentax ones come out the Tamron 1.4tc's will be selling at reasonable prices, not this $360.00 I saw one get sold for a few weeks back.

With the ones sold through the forum shop I believe that prices have stabilised to around the US$100-140 mark

cheers
