John.
Is this the lens you have?
Pentax SMC DA* 200mm f/2.8 ED [IF] SDM - Review / Test Report
If so, I was not even aware it was out. I want one. Where did you get it?

I never use green mode, I use the manual modes, so I will see if it works in green mode. I have both the DA*16-50 and the 50-135 and no go with those, but will try green mode.

BTW, I just noticed a Tamron 1.4 just sold on eBay for $250.........
What!? I wonder if it's the same moron that paid $1,425.00 (plus shipping to Italy) for a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8. Not that there's anything wrong with that lens, it's just that the new HSM version will be out shortly for...$800!.

I really don't get some people...

Javier, the cheapest price seems to be at Abe's of Maine, $905.95 shipped. That's $205 less than Adorama when you factor in shipping.

Thanks Mis, I will order one tomorrow...If you don't hear from me in a while, it is because My wife killed me.

UPDATE: It works...Let me esplain as Ricky Ricardo use to say...
I bought a Brand new Tamron 1.4TC from samys when this whole thread started...It works great including the SDM lenses on my K2OD...I also have a KENKO 1.5TC that I bought from B$H as well as another Tamron 1.4TC that I bought on EEEKKKBAY and that one along with the Kenko DOES not work on the K2OD but both work fine on my K1OD...I suspected early on that the electronics are different between the Tamron TC i got from Samys and the Kenko from B$H and now the eeekbay TC...So at the end of the day, I don't know.

You're welcome, Javier. I live my LBA vicariously through you!

PS: I just dropped $950 to get the frickin car fixed, so it's going to be a while until I can buy a new lens.

Javier, does the Samy's TC look different than the eBay one? I guess there's no way of knowing when either of them were built. Any serial numbers on them?

Interesting.

As for that EEEEKBAY sale .... I was in the running ... and then it skyrocketed ... there was no way I was paying $250US for it.

For now I am still looking for a place in the US to ship to Australia.

Although I see on Samys site that they have a x2 TC backordered .... wonder how long for these to come through????

Yes, I have the '*', got it Friday from a NY vendor. It seems to be widely available for around
$900; it is my first SDM and my first '*' and IQ on the 20 w/o TC is better than excellent. With the TC it is only excellent.

The buyer for the TC was from Germany. I wondered about the Sigma and thought there must be something special about it that I could not find in my product search.

Face it, I guess; the $/Euro ratio is a contributor to this inflation...........

John, yea, I did figure out the problem...For a minute there I thought I was nutZ...Anyway, I will be ordering the DA*200 this morning. I have found the only way to hide this stuff from my wife is to buy a prepaid Visa and have it shipped to my work. I do not have any Credit cards, (I use only debit cards) because there was a time in my life where I was in so much debt, I could not pay attention...., So, if I can't afford to buy it outright, I do not buy it...But I digress...

Ha! Before seeing your latest, I'd been thinking I was crazy, so I just ran out on the balcony and snapped off some deer-pix (local pests). Did: green mode with and w/o TC and Tv w/TC
........worked fine tho I haven't yet uploaded the pix. What was your problem?

The lens is amazing, even with the TC; I am no pro but the 'bokeh' seems fine to me too.

Good luck with your finances....maybe an off-shore account.........? (8- )

So at the end of the day, I don't know.
I've googled up a bit.

There seem to be two versions of the converter:

They both have 2 inner gold SDM contacts on both sides and 7 outer contacts on the side the lens is mounted to.

But one has only 6 outer contacts (with contact #2 missing) on the side the body is mounted to, named Tamron 1.4X Pz-AF MC4

The other has all 7 outer contacts on the side the body is mounted to, too, also named Tamron 1.4X Pz-AF MC4 or Tamron 1.4X AF (I'm not sure about the name here).

What do your versions look like?

Last edited by falconeye; 03-24-2008 at 11:56 AM. Reason: Mixed body with lens side. Fixed it.

Thanks Falcon. I will look when I get home. I also heard that there was indeed two versions of the Tamron TC 1.4 made from a fellow on another forum.

I have just one: Tamron 1.4X Pz-AF MC4. It has SDM (inner) contacts, and 7 pins on the lens side and 6 on the body side.

I just checked myKENKO Pz-AF 1.5X TELEPLUS SHQand the pin/contact array is identical to the above.
