I'm not quite sure if you could point to a lens and say "That lens gives a 3-D effect." I think subject distance, background distance, and focal length(?) are contributing factors as well. The FA 50/1.4 will give you a lot of subject isolation for close portraits, but not if you use it for bird photography, you know.

I'm not sure there's a 3D look per se, but some lenses do seem to render lines and transition areas in solid objects with a sort of crisp smoothness that makes the object appear just a bit more solid, tactile, real. The effect is rather subtle and a skeptic could easily explain it as some sort of placebo effect. However, the FA limiteds seem specifically designed with rendering of this sort in mind. By reputation, many of the Takumar M42, as well as the K series Pentax lenses, supposedly have this "tactile" rendering. In my own experience, the lenses that might have it are: Tele-Takumar 300/6.3; K 28/3.5; K 35/3.5; K 50/1.2; K 200/4; A 35-105/3.5; FA 24-90/3.5-4.5.

The king of "3D" effect would imho. be Carl Zeiss. I have converted three C/Y lenses the 28/2,8, 50/1,4 and the 85/2,8 and I love them all for their "3D" effect.

The best 3D look lens that I have is an old preset Tmount Soligor 35 f2.8 probably a Tokina made lens.
I also have a Soligor 35 2.8 that is not a preset that does not have the same effect. The optics look identical but
is not as good.

Why two posts with the same question?

The other post wanted only Pentax, and I wanted to cover all lenses
Can see your point, though

thanks

You could go real 3D.

I use a LG Optimus Max 3D phone. The pictures and videos I'm taking of my kids with it are priceless to me.

If someone said I could only keep the output for the last month of one of the following three cameras, Sony RX100, K-30 or LG 3D, I'd keep the 3D without hesitation. Totally optically inferior, but provides a sense of "being there in the moment" that the others can't match.

I think one of the contributory factors for a 3D effect would be the quality of the out of focus background, in other words the bokeh. The best bokeh would be soft, as opposed to "busy". Check this out:

All lenses can produce 3D effect, depend on light condition (angle, soft/hard), distance to subject, distance to background, background pattern, color/contrast of subject, f-stop/DOF, bokeh pattern.
They all contribute as a whole to give a 3D look.

Personally, I prefer none shape buttery bokeh, DOF that cover the whole subject, place the subject at a position with good isolation with background, background color that enhance color of subject...
ok there may be more things to remember, but I see when I am at location.

I'm sorry bobpur, i don't mean to knock on you, but to me there is nothing 3d in those two photos....first one is a nice flower/bokeh shot but it have any 3d feel like most of such photos...

to original question: I basically agree with hoanpham....it's more about light conditions, perspective, bokeh, amount of coarse detail in the field of focus than anything else....but of course you need very good lens. They say lenses with high microcontrast which are able to distinguish subtle tones of colours make 3d. Maybe tilt and shift lenses, which allow to control prespective and focus field better might be there too. Just my 2 cents...

here's some link to illustrate:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/119875-pentax-...ull-frame.html

to the first two photos have this 3d feel...

Completely agree, if you are after 3d you can do real stereoscopic 3d quite easily nowadays, the LG Optimus Max 3D and its predecessor the Optimus 3D take excellent 3d photos and have great parallax barrier screens that trick that can show real 3d images.

The Fujifilm W3 Real 3D also does stereoscopic 3d and has the lenses set apart at the width of the human eye, also has a Parallax barrier screen. I bought the Fuji 3d cam for $99. It has two separate cameras that fire in unison and produce twin 10mp images. 3d TVs are commonplace nowadays, I saw a 51 inch Samsung 3d TV advertised for $575 a couple of days ago.

For the price of a Pentax FA Limited you could do stereoscopic 3D quite easily.
