K20D vs. K7

Any users here who went from a K20D to K7 and want to share your thoughts on the differences? Is the K7 a real bump up?

Thanks

Ultimately the K-7 isn't much of an improvement over your K20d. If you didn't already have the K20d there certainly isn't anything wrong with the K7, however the K-5 is simply a leap ahead, rather than a step. Improvements you will find on the K-7 will include a nicer body with possibly better ergonomics (subjective of course), and still very basic live view, and simple video (by dslr standards these days). Where you won't find an improvement (actually it has been shown to be slightly worse than the K20d) is in the image quality department. I would say wait until you can get a K-5, or think about a 2nd body in the form of a K-x or K-r, and keep the K20d for the rugged uses.

There were improvements with the K-7, but dynamic range is not as good with the newer body. So, if you are into landscapes, stick with the K20D or move to the K5, K01, or K30.

If you own a K-7 or K20D, it wouldn't be worth the money to upgrade from the K20D to the K-7 or vice versa. The K-5 or K-30 is more of an actual upgrade as it boasts significant IQ differences especially in high ISO.

Thanks....I have a K20D...and was thinking it would be nice to have another body on which I 'permanently' keep a M42 adapter and use it to play around with those lenses. I haven't used my adapter on my K20D body for a while because it is very inconvenient putting it on and taking it off and keeping the sensor exposed during the process. I was just considering the options.

I just got a K-30 to replace my K20D (although I'll keep it as a backup/second body) and the difference is marked. Low-light performance, focusing speed, speed of handling photos, etc., are all much better. I'm highly satisfied w/ the K-30 as a step up from the K20D. Of course, reasonable people might have a different experience ...

OK...but what does the K20D have that you feel is missing from the K30?

Are you addressing this to me? If so, I can't think of anything that the K20D has over the K-30, except maybe that the K20D has more surface-mounted controls. However, I haven't found anything in the K-30's control layout that will hinder me. Except now that I think of it, I do kind of wish the AF/AE-L button stuck out just a bit more or had a distinctive surface feature, in order to make it slightly easier to find by feel. However, that is a very minor quibble & one that will likely become moot as I get more used to the camera.
