seems that it causes a shadow when you use the camera's built-in flash.

Holy moly! Here I was thinking that Rambo's Bigma would cost in excess of a hundred grand. I just read on Popular Photography that it will be priced between 20,000 and 30,000 USD. Time to head for the gym and begin some serious weight training!

I'm looking at that thing and thinking there should be a pair of big hand-cranks on the side for manual focus and zooming.

If you can afford to buy this thing and are willing to carry it, I suppose you can also afford to buy a dedicated Canon 40D or Nikon D300 to mount on it (note that I didn't say 'to mount the lens on').

Shouldn't they have included a hotshoe on top?
Andrew, if you can afford this lens, you can afford someone to carry it around for you!.

the in built flash is useless past the sigmas minimum focus distance anyway.... so why would you want to use the inbuilt flash

silly man.

You're going to need one of those 3 million candlepower spotlights for that thing. Heck, you'd need an array of them. Maybe even a lighthouse.....

For $30,000 USD, I think I'd rather get a 400mm 2.8. S what if it's only a 800mm 5.6 with the 2X TC on it? There was a Nikon 400 2.8 (autofocus non-VR) on KEH a couple of days ago for a little over $5,000 USD. I don't think that Pentax would charge much for than that for a D FA 400 2.8.
