Hi All

I just purchased this lens from a user here and I'm keenly awaiting its arrival, but one thing has me a bit worried. I notice a lot of owners and reviewers are commenting on its lack of ability in "landscape" situations.

I'm somewhat of a pixel peeper and bought this lens to be a "multi-tool" and one of it's main functions was to be used as a landscape lens.

Could anyone who uses this lens for landscape post some 100% crops please? I just want to put my mind at ease and have a baseline of what to expect with this lens in landscape situations.

Some snapshot I took with the DA 35mm 2.8 limited at F8.
Find attached one scene with two 100% crops. I believe most of the time you will be limited by the weather (fog / haze) instead of the lens. The right 100% crop reflects that haze problem.
Btw. I also use this lens as my daily work horse.
The Bokeh can be noisy, for portraits get close to be in macro range, this always gives a wonderful Bokeh. Enjoy .

I see no problems what so ever with your samples. They are nice and sharp. Only issue is haze but you get that with all lenses.

I experienced that, as for every lens I suppose, there are issues with 35 macro lens samples. I bought a first sample (wich was brandnew) and my kit lens was clearly sharper for landscapes. I kept it about four days and exchanged it for a 35 2.4.
But I missed the proxyphoto capability that I really liked the few days I got the lens, so I gave a try to a second sample (used, bought via a forum) a few weeks ago. This one is just great for landscapes, clearly sharper than the kit lens and as sharp as the 35 2.4 I think.

I used to have the 35mm Macro, and I am not sure why anyone would say it's not a great landscape lens. It is very sharp and it's a great focal length.
If you click on the photo, then click on "actions", then "view all sizes" you can see the original size and see for yourself how amazingly sharp this lens is (oh and pay no attention to the dust spot on the lens that i was too lazy to remove, lol)

I agree Cali82rs, there is nothing wrong with the sharpenss of the 35mm for landscapes, and your shot proves it.

35mm f2.8 macro letd is everyhing are great. look PENTAX : Select a PENTAX interchangeable lens camera or a lens model

I bought the DA15 for landscapes, but I end up using the DA35 more and liking the results more as well. Perfect sharpness and color rendition. Landscape shots usually avoid the two downsides of the DA35 which are slow focusing and busy bokeh.

The DA 35 macro is a superb landscape lens due to focal length, lack of distortion, colour and contrast, and sharpness too.

Some people claim it's not very sharp at infinity but this is due to the very, very small turn of the focusing ring between infinity and closer focus. This makes the lens very susceptible to focusing errors, whether manual or by AF. I originally used quick shift to correct my infinity shots, which was possible only because I have a Katzeye installed. Later on, a slight tweak to the AF callibration solved the problem. The DA 35 macro is very, very sharp at infinity, even wide open.

+1 with the above, it`s a stunning piece of glass and very versatile due to it`s focal length and 1:1 macro capability.
When I picked and ordered the DA35ltd I choose it specificly because of it`s usefullness for landscapes, and I remember growing the same reservations as you as I kept reading more and more. How foolish of me

Awww man...I am sad now. This is THE lens I regret selling most
It had nothing to do with the lens performance, I just sold it to try something different, but still regret it.
