The 1.4 is quite a bit different than the 1.7.

1. The 1.4 looks to have a lot more metal than the 1.7 does. From what I could tell, the 1.4 has metal for the actual lens assembly unlike the 1.7, which looks to be plastic.
2. There are no screws holding the front group in like there is in the 1.7 - The whole group itself unscrews. The "beauty ring" on the front of the group holds the front pieces of glass in. You will need to cut the line of glue that keeps the ring from unscrewing.

I did not use any tools to unscrew the front group or the ring.

Just one comment that is a bit off topic for a bit of humor.

Hey look at those blue prints - it's a Petax digital full frame!!

Well, maybe not

Topic related; interesting to see this. .Although if I attempted it there might be a few extra bonus parts after placing it all back together againt
I think it's a circuit board overlay for his TV.

this is great tutorial. I made the mistake of taking my lens apart, but stopped after step 4. I put it back together but my lens stays stuck on the A setting. Or whatever setting it is when I put it back together ( I had it stuck on 22 just before). I would love for it to work properly again so that i can use it on my old film camera, would anyone be able to help me. As soon as I put the screws back it won't turn anymore but before that it does? I hope someone can help me.

maybe I didn't put the A lock button in the right direction. not sure what I am doing wrong. Every time I take it apart I am so scared to lose one of the tiny little springs!
thanks so much for your help.

little update, after taking the lens apart again, and checking everything again, I re-assembled it, and discovered it was getting stuck because I tightened one of the last screws too much. Just wanted to let you know in case someone else encountered this. (of course it there is a noter reason, I am totally open to suggestions, but can't see anything else for now).
