That thing can see to the far side of the Moon!

Kind of strange that this is designed for a client's need ... (What kind of need ?)

To manual focus that thing is a nightmare. A flare of osteoarthritis involving thumbs and index fingers as a result for sure

The official Zeiss page states:

This 256 kg behemoth also required Carl Zeiss to develop totally new ways of operating a telephoto lens, including servo controlled aiming and focusing.

I see they've taken care of the focusing/aiming issues. Now if only they provided a truck to lug that thing around with...

Says the customer wanted it to shoot wildlife. I guess he can get in his high rise and aim it at Africa and have a safari from his balcony or he is compensating for the lack of size in another department. Probably just has it so he can say he has it. Whoever says money can't buy happiness ought to be slapped

What! are you kidding? This was commissioned by some Arab oil baron. He has a bevy of nubile young maidens to set up for him!

Is this a guess or a presumption? My thoughts were different. I immediately associated this with that Virgin-chief, Sir Richard Branson. Not only does he live in a very wealthy palace in the neighbourhood of beautiful wildlife (near the Kruger Park, South Africa).

This is what I'm referring too.

He also had the text "mine is bigger than yours" printed on one of his Virgin airplanes A340-600 (that would be a nice lens, too, btw!). Cannot find the image.

And he can afford this lens, I think. Now that the dollar is cheap...

So he should be it.
