hmm, they don't have product images up yet and have the 300 mislabed as the 200... I wonder if they're just getting the pages up for preorder, or actually have them in stock?

i really dont see how this is a worth while investment

the image quality at that SINGLE focal length would have to be worlds better than the sigma to make this lens desirable.

otherwise your missing out on the 70-199mm usability the sigma offers!
Gooshin, you've got a point about the usefulness of zooms, one of the reasons that the 70-200 range is one of the best-sellers in most lens-makers product lines. On the other hand, remember that very few zooms manage to deliver their best image quality at the extremes of their focal range. I suspect that the DA* 200mm should significantly outperform the Sigma at 200mm, based on Pentax's fine track record with its high-end primes.

Oh, I see that later posts called this line of discussion quits. Sorry, but I think I'll leave it in.

Sigma focuses a lot on resolution in the game of chasing MTF. Its flare control is very good too.

However, pentax has its features. Regardless how good pentax camera could perform, it is the lenses that are appealing. Otherwise, just buy a canon 300d with all these sigma and tamron lenses (I have a blogger friend asking me why I bother buying third party lenses on a pentax camera body anyway).

I sold my sigma 70-200 f2.8 because zooms cannot really impress me better than primes.

Are you sure the Tamron will be out this month? What about the Tamron 10-24mm?

I do agree though that Pentax makes the best primes out there. And once I am done getting my focal range fully covererd, I will be buying up the primes one by one.
