I sometimes do airbrushing and when I'm spraying paint I want that air to be as clean and dry as possible. That's what I was thinking of when I suggested making sure the air is clean and dry.

But you are right...compressed air probably will damage a lens so a vacuum would be better.

Thanks for the suggestions all! I will try the vacuum first. Luckily ours is pretty underpowered, so while it's rough floor cleaning with, it whould be just right for lens cleaning

I went out and took some test shots (first in a controlled environment against sky, white paper, and a white door surface, and then at a street party/night shots) and I don't seem to notice anything, so I guess I am overrreacting.

Enjoying the hell out of the lens, can't wait to spend some time in macro mode with the vivtar 2X TC.

Thanks again for all the help. I have had no problem with the lens in normal picture taking mode.

However, I just tried it out on top of a vivitar 2x macro-focusing teleconverter.

I seem to have specks in the picture.

I tried vacuuming it but it didn't seem to dislodge the particles, and it's not the sensor or the teleconverter (I cleaned both and tried with other lenses, and had no problems.

damn.
