Would you go for a.... ?

Been using my Vivitar-A 19mm f3.8 lens a little bit recently...

As I can't afford the DA21 Ltd, it's pretty much the only prime-compromise out there...

It got me thinking...

Would any of you go for a plastic-fantastic DA19mm f4 ?

Cos at the price of the DA35-2.4 I'd snap its hand off...

A wide angle prime (ok not ultrawide) outside the 'DA*' and 'Ltd' line-ups could be a boost...

No?

Actually i probably wouldn't, unless the quality is REALLY good. I bet that's how most people will think, since the kit lens can cover this focal lenght with a faster aperture...
edit : but having an option is always good, and would make the lens selection bigger... if they don't spend a lot of money doing it, that's great.
edit2 : but i guess i would buy a "plastic fantastic" DA16mm f4...

Yes.

The more primes the merrier. And its a weird focal length, perfect for Pentax.

Of course the quallity would have to be good!!
I assumed that went without saying!!
Just built cheaper than the DA*/Ltd lenses in the materials of the DA35-2.4 & DA50-1.8...

The Vivitar 19mm is a so-so lens. You'd not get much more over the DA 18-55mm kit lens imo.
The discontinued DA 16-45 f/4 or Sigma 17-70mm zooms would offer a wider fov and the convenience of zoom.

I don't have a kit lens at the moment and recently sold the Tamron 17-50 2.8 to fund the K5... At the moment the Viv19 is my widest lens followed by FA28 + FA35...

I plan on picking up a WR kit for rain (something I was scared to do with the K-x) but prefer shooting primes in general (which is why I had few qualms letting go of the Tamron; despite it being an excellent lens it had not seen any use in months!)

A plastic DA 19 f4? No. DA 19 f 3.2 or faster? Yes.

I have the DAL 55-300 and DA 35 2.4 and I must say, they are awesome. The photo quality is superb. Especially the 35. However, I am not a fan of the plastic construction, although it is sturdy and well done. But, the lens itself needs to be a work of art and emanate craftsmanship. Just like a Ferrari, it's just a car, but the craftsmanship... Alas, I love the lenses because I paid 160 for each one
