Third Party Lenses?

Thank you all in advance for taking the time to read and reply to my post....
I am hoping to get some advice in regards to third-party lenses vs. Pentax brand lenses.
I'm considering a revamp of my lenses and, initially purchased Tamron lenses (70-200 2.8, 28-75 2.8 and a 10-24 3.5-4.5) and they served me well for more than a year or so. I'm wondering if trading in these lenses for Pentax DA/FA lenses in comparable focal lengths is a recommended option by you guys? Is there that much difference in IQ, AF speed, etc,. I am a full time photographer/photojournalist and this has been swirling around in my mind for a few months now. I have a 50 1.8 Pentax and am amazed at the IQ and sharpness of this little wonder.
Any input is appreciated.

The reviews of the UWA zooms really put those, what 5 now, lenses through their paces. One of the Sigmas came out on top, but the Pentax was 2nd.

On the 70-200 the Tamron was sharpest in the comparison but the Sigma won overall.

If you're looking for FA* lenses of comparable focal lengths (FA*28-70, FA*80-200), they might be a little hard to find and pricey. They will compare favourably - most likely as sharp or sharper, but nicer color rendition.

If you're looking for DA* lenses (and DA), then you are looking at the DA 12-24, DA*16-50, and DA*50-135 or DA*60-250. You aren't going to find a close equivalent, as you are using an APS-C camera already. The DA 12-24 is fantastic, DA*16-50 probably a little worse than the 28-75 (but WR!), the 50-135 is as sharp as the 70-200, just shorter (but WR and smaller!) and the 60-250 is pretty close to the 70-200 (sharper on the long end, but F4).

If I were you, I'd replace the 10-24 with the DA 12-24, but keep the other two - unless you find the WR of the DA* useful. The FA* may be good - but they'll be hard to find, and you probably have to spend a bit to get them (FA*28-70: ~$700, FA*80-200: ~$1100)

Some Pentax lenses are better than the third-party equivalents, some are equal, some are worse. The answer must be given on a case-by-case basis, however, third-party manufacturers are just as capable as Pentax to make great lenses.

And some Pentax lenses are just rebadged Tamrons, and in at least one case, Cosina.

As Bdery said, it's really on a case by case basis. Tamron and Sigma make excellent lenses. I suggest you do some mining of this sites lens data base before you start swapping lenses. There is some really good info there.
