Absolutely not! I've been known to drive much further for no good reason at all. Getting a great deal on great glass is just the icing on the cake!

Hey, if you have anything by way of great scenery to look at on the way and you can afford the gas then I say go for it. I never hardly get out of this town and we don't really even have a Fall to look forward to. It just goes from greener to browner here and the temperature eventually drops somewhere below 90, that's it. The most thrilling things I ever get to photograph most days are cranes, crows, and other like birds and little lizards. Oh and the pets. If I wasn't primarily a portrait photographer I'd probably go nuts for lack of inspiration. What I would not give for few days of Fall in New England....

Gas cost multiply by 4 in europe

You should stop by several places to use them as well.
Make some keeper photos, then they are just bargains

You inspired me to search my local Craigslist for anything interesting, and just this morning someone posted a ZX-5n and FA 28-80 that look to be in great condition for $85! So yeah, my wallet's going to be $85 lighter tonight...

I'd say it was worth it. I would have made the trip on the Harley and spent $12 in gas. I've only been to Ithaca once and the traffic was pretty bad. A lot of badly timed red lights if I remember. My daughter was rowing there at a race when she was in college. I made a lot of trips to Whitney Point which is nearby. There's plenty of places to put the lenses to good use along the way, at least for me. I sometimes head down that way just to ride.
