1.4X TC on tamron 70-200 f2.8 or 120-400mm lens

Hey guys I have a Tamron 70-200 f2.8 I like the lens but I want more than 200mm for bird photography, my options are sell the 70-200 and purchase a sigma 120-400 or 150-500 or get a Tamron AF 1.4X TC for the for the 70-200?
Whats the bad and the good using a tamron 1.4X TC?

Thanks!!

It all depends on your usage.

I have the other brand (Sigma) and have both 1.4x and 2x Sigma APO -EX DG teleconverters . I find it useful to have the extra speed from 70-200 when I do not need to go further. Basically I'f you get the 120-400 you will be getting a 50-135 as well

I can't speak of Tamron, but my sigma APO 70-200f2.8EX works very well with the 1.4x and 2x TCs

I guess having the extra speed make sense I'm just not sure about the TC haven't used one.

Do you have any pics with the lens and the TC?

Thanks!!

i have posted lots of shotw with the Sigma and 2x Sigma TC, Check the sample photo archive, but i'm not not sure this is relevant to you and a tamron lens. for several reasons.

My sigma APO 70-200F2.8 EX (non DG non Macro) is 9 years and at least 5 optical design revisions old. in this case, age has an advantage, because it is reputidly the sharpest wide open at long focal lengths with the exception perhaps of the optically stabilized HSM II version. BUT the newer lenses are not compatible with the SIGMA TCs because the sigma TCs for pentax do not support HSM, AND the sigma TCss are not mechanically compatible with most lenses including other sigma lenses, except long fast Tele's and tele zooms because the front element of the TC protrudes 12 mm into the rear of the lens, and needs a 35mm diameter rear element opening, to fit.

if you are interested in getting a used screw drive sigma lens, go looking for one, but if you are looking at new lenses only, the photos are not relevant.

The Tamron Pz-AF 1.4.s the best all around TC I've found in 30 years of experimentation and has worked best on all the modern lenses I own. EVERYTHING else I've tried with Pentax and Tamron lenses had been disappointing in practical use.

Some older TC's work well with older lenses of the same era.
YMMV.

But it's certainly relative to your needs -- do with what you have. Cropping MAY be a better choice in some situations

I did found some pics with and w/o the tamron TC and I don't think I'll be happy with the TC, That's why I want to see more pics from different people with diffident lenses using the tamron TC.
