Sigma 70-300mm tight zoom?

Hey all,

I recently got a deal on a sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 DL macro for 35 bucks on fleabay, but when I put it on my k20 I noticed the zoom was difficult to turn like it was too tight. The lens looks like it was hardly used and is in mint condition. Does this sound normal for this lens? The zoom turns all the way and does not act like its catching on anything, it just seems like its too tight and I'm wondering when new if these lenses are like this and need to be broken in so to speak?

Yeah, those have a very stiff zoom -- they are known for that. Precise zooming very tough. It won't get better, and it shouldn't get worse -- that's just the way it is.

It almost feels like it puts too much stress on the mount. It slightly moves in the mount at times too, I've never seen something like this.

Well of course, it *could* be broken also, but those do have a pretty stiff zoom -- gotta get a good grip and use your whole hand to turn it and it is impossible to do it smoothly -- only herky-jerky adjustments possible. I solved the problem by only using mine at 300...
