Ricoh lenses

My uncle gave his old Ricoh 35mm camera. With the camera were a couple of lenses I would like to use with my K5, a Tokina EL 50mm 2.8 and a XR rikenon 50mm 1.7. The lenses mount on the camera fine, but I can't adjust the aperature using the aperture ring on the lens when mounted on the camera. Please help.

I have the second one you mentioned, or at least one kind of like it. Mine is not the XR version. There should be a button on the aperture ring. Push it and try to twist the ring. Doesn't matter if its on the camera or not. If it won't move when the button is pushed there is something more serious wrong with the lens (stuck aperture ring) could possibly send the lens off to get repaired but that would cost more than the lens is worth. Or just buy a new one.

The aperature adjusts normal when not mounted on camera.

It is not supposed to change when mounted -- it stays wide-open until you fire (so you can focus with it wide-open).

The XR has no button, alamo you probably have a "P" type like my 28mm Rikenon-P. With the camera off the lens try turning the aperture; if it works there but not on the camera, then check that the aperture lever near the mount closes the aperture when you push it. If those both work then note the camera must be in "M" mode; the A mode will work but lens will stay wide open, and other modes cannot talk to the lens and won't work at all. In "M" mode, try the off/on/preview to preview with the lens set to f/8 or slower; you will get a dark view in the finder as it stops down, assuming you've set Preview to manual.. can't recall where that setting hangs out right now

And don't forget item 27, Using Aperture Ring = Permitted!

I love my Rikenon-P 28 and XR 70-150, great stuff. I've owned their 50/2 and 50/1.7 also, and taken some great images with them.

If I remember right,
go to options,
dig deeper until
"allow to use the aperture ring on lens" from 1 to 2.
Then you are all set.
1) if this is not an A (or something like A), then use the green bottom to give right exposure.
