Any rumors/news on the price of the Pentax 560mm?

I am considering replacing my Sigma 50-500 with a Pentax 60-250 and a 560mm. However, I may think twice about it if the price of the new 560mm is around $10,000 like the Canon/Nikon primes. Even half that price is still a lot of money, but would make for good competition I guess...

I thought the list price on the new Pentax 560mm was around $ 7000.00. I could be wrong.

Oh yes, thanks, I found it on B&H photo.... $7000. Cheap compared to Canon/Nikon equivalents....
Bigma is pretty good for what it does for the $1000 I purchased it for. The 60-250mm and a 560mm would cost almost $10,000...OUCH!

Please don't post questions in the news and rumors forum in the future. Moved to the lens forum. Thanks!

Basically, nobody is going to buy the 560mm until Pentax releases a pro body...IMO.

Adam,
Sorry wasn't sure where to post this thread.

What is interesting is that it is designed for APS-C format cameras. So a more professional camera would have to have an APS-C sensor to be compatible with this lens. Birders will definitely appreciate the focal length, despite the price. I wonder how their price with compete with the Sigma 500mm of $5000 that is also compatible with FF cameras.... Prices on Pentax lenses usually don't go down much, so I guess we should expect the $7000 to stay there for a while.

And cheap[ly] designed compared to the Canon/Nikon equivalents. I would take a look at the stellar Sigma 500mm 4.5 way before considering this.

I agree with many others who think it's overpriced by a few thousand. But we still haven't seen the IQ from it. It may be that it produces very good results on a K-5 IIs with an effective (FF equivalent) focal length of about 840mm. This could actually make it a serious consideration.

But since it isn't being marketed as a '*' lens, it could also be that it won't be quite as sharp as I'm imagining.

It's no where near cheap compared to canikon, it's absurdly over priced for what it is.

Yeah, I think Sigma will sell quite a few more of these now. But not to me just yet...

My new Sigma 500 4.5 is sensational. The pentax 560 will have to be dam good to match it. But I think the pentax with the sigma 500 or the pentax 560 will be a much easier travelling lens than the canon or nikon system. I can go almost anywhere without a tripod or monopod. I only only get into trouble when the light realy falls off.

How would a pro body differ from the K-5II/s?

I beg to differ Adam if you are referring to a full frame as a pro body. If I ever get a full frame it is unlikely to go onto my 500 Sigma. The smaller sensor gives my lens extra reach. It's like having a 700mm lens for the price of a 500mm. For wildlife my opinion is that the smaller sensor is to my advantage.
