Tokina AF 75-300 4.5-5.6

I picked up this Tokina 75-300mm lens with a Promaster FTD 5700 flash for $40.00. The lens looks brand new. I can't find much info on the lens but so far I am pleased with the results. Any info on the lens would be appreciated.

Here is a test pic shot with the lens and flash combo.

Hi az-dave

I have this lens and asked a similar question on this forum a short while ago with no response. I have a paper copy of a review done by the UK magazine Amateur Photographer in their 29th June 1996 issue. Their ratings are:

Opitical Quality 27/30
Ease of Use 25/30
Construction 16/30
Value for Money 17/20
Overall 85%

The final comment is "This is a lens that is capable of achieving great things on the test bench. It is also capable, in the right hands (or perhaps even on the right tripod) of being similarly practical in the field.

I question the construction rating as I find it a well built lens although I haven't used it a great deal but I certainly have no intention of getting rid of it. Hope this helps

Regards
Brian

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the info. I see in your sig your Tokina is listed as a 70. I know what you mean about build quality as mine is all metal and built like a tank. Does yours have a twist zoom or a push pull zoom?

Thanks again,
Dave

It is a 75 Dave, I'll change my sig. It is also a twist zoom which is the main reason I got it at that time, I bought it new either 1996 ro 1997.

Cheers
Brian

Tokina 75-300

I have had a difficult time finding reviews of this lens. Are you satisfied with the autofocus. One review I read said it was not very good. Would you agree compared to your other lens? I have a K10D and truly love the camera but don't feel the autofocus is one of the camera's strengths.

Thanks,
Tim
