Pentax 12-24 or 31mm 1.8 ltd

I am an avid landscape photographer and am looking to upgrade and am caught between three lenses for my K-5. I am looking for all around sharpness and as limited flare as possible. Please give me your insights. Thanks!

I have both Pentax lenses and love them both. The 31 limited is my most-used lens but isn't always wide enough when I'm doing landscapes, although it usually is. It's sharp and I've never had it flare. It also has a DOF scale, useful for hyperfocal focusing. On an APS-C sensor it's a 46 equivalent so not terribly wide, but I love it. The DA12-24 is also a terrific lens. At the long end it's getting close to the same perspective as the 31 but at the wide end it's pretty wide . I haven't had flare issues with it and it's sharper than my Sigma 8-16, but not as sharp as the 31.

Thank you. Is the sharpness drastically noticeable from the 12-24 to the 31. I am concerned with the shorter focal length and would like some flexibility, but need to have that tack sharpness for landscapes.

Here's a link to a set I took with the 12-24 on my K10D. I have no complaints about sharpness at all. One of the river shots shows the flare situation pretty well - the sun is in frame peeking through branches.

The differences are minor. You're just not going to get quite the same sharpness from a zoom as you will from a limited prime. I do mostly landscapes and I find the 12-24 plenty sharp, particularly after a bit of sharpening in Lightroom.

BTW, beautiful shots Canada_Rockies!

Thanks - these are all within a few minutes walk of my house. It's hard to take a bad shot with scenery like that and a lens like the 12-24.

Sounds like it should be what I'm looking for the 12-24 that is. Here are some shots I have been producing with the Tamron 17-50 2.8
