lame duck ?

I call on all members of the forum have a SMC PENTAX 1:3.5 135mm.
Comparing my two copies, I realize that the two do not have the same level of depth of field !
Where is the truth ?
Good pictures at all !

Are you discussing the SMC Pentax vs SMC-M?

Also are you discussing the DPF scale, or actual DapF in a picture?

Thank you for your interest.
Here is a picture of my two 135mm (SMC PENTAX-M 1:3,5 135mm).
On the right the normal model (DPF scale up to 32), on the left the same lens, but look at the dpf scale : from 4 to 22 ???
The IR index also is weird ...
Good pictures at all !

Could it be that one of them was serviced/repair at some point and parts came from a different 135mm lens?

No repair, but ... abuse "saké" ? part down in factory ?
Seems barrel comes from M 85 f:2 ...
I just want to know if it is a "single" model.
Good pictures at all !

My M 135/3.5 shows f32.

Interesting. You may have a rarity.
Are the serial numbers very different?

Unless you bought them both new, there is no real way to tell if one of them went in for repair somewhere. I doubt the one with the M 85 ring came from the factory that way.

Using a loupe on the "Pentax Lenses and Accessories" catalog 8002 ( 1980)
I can see that the photo of the 135mm f/3.5 lens is same as the one on the right hand side of Wheelwright's images
8 ~ 16 ~ 32 with an orange marker on one of the 16.

The DOF scale on the left image is indeed the same as in the catalog shot of the 85mm f/2 .

You might have a rare lens there Wheelwright, does the left lens work OK?
Things can go wrong on production lines.
One time in late 1980's I was programming robotic welders on an unnamed car production line and although I did not see it personally, I heard that one night something went wrong and a line of sub frames, SUV on one side and sedan on the other came down to be welded to the engine boxes.

I think it is.
I've never seen a repair with changing barrel, it's too much !

I have photos of five M135/3.5s with the DOF scale going to f32, so the lens on the left is definitely unusual. The oddest thing is, it's rare to find any parts from one focal length that come close to fitting on another one, besides screws and mounts.

The images on Boz Dimitrov's site:

M 85/2

and

M 135/3.5

confirm this.
