Which lense next?

Hey All,

I have 2 lenses that go with my k-7, smc f zooms 35-70 & 70-210. What would be a good lense to add? Possibilities would be the WR 18-55, a prime lense( maybe 50 mm) , or ????

The DA 18-55, in any one of its versions, would give you cheap coverage of wider angles.

you should really have a good prime lens. something faster than your current lenses. The DA 18-55 is good if you need more wide angle, but may be redundant depending on what you shoot. if you never feel you need to go wider than 35mm, find yourself a good prime.

I'd look at the DA 35 or 50's if your on a tight budget. If you got a few more dollars to spend a FA 50mm 1.4 is a treat! The DA 40mm limited is a great prime to own, not too badly priced, and very versatile. And if you can find one used, an F 50 1.7 is an incredible deal (I found one for $20 yesterday, fantastic lens!) and if money is no object, a DA* 55mm f1.4 or FA 43mm limited is also a good one to add. Used 50mm primes are cheap and relativley easy to find. There is no less than 4-5 on my local Kijiji at any given time in varying models (M, FA, F, DA, DFA)

How much you spending? There's lots of us willing to help you spend your money, but we have to know how much you want to spend. Off the top of my head I'd say 21 Ltd.. expand your range...Maybe even a Tamron 10-24 or Pentax 12-24. The DA 18-55 is cheaper, but....it's cheaper. YOU could even look for a higher quality walk around like the 18-135 or 17-70. Without knowing what you're looking for, it's hard to guess what might make you happy.

I've pretty much got the 35-210 range covered. I see lots of positive comments concerning prime lens in either the 35, 43, or 50 range. The DA* lenses maybe little too pricey at this point. I guess something $400 or less.

I'd think about (a) what you want to shoot, and (b) how much you can afford to spend, then post the answers back here in this thread, as currently the answer to your question is anything anyone wants to type

I personally would find the gap from 18 to 35mm too much to bear. For $400 you could get an 18-55 and one of the new DA primes, 35 or 50. You can find a used DA40 Limited for $300 or less rather often in the Marketplace here, a talented lens built to higher standards. And if focusing manually doesn't bother you that $400 could get you several excellent primes!

Get the 21mm prime. Wider than the kit you have, but not too wide. Or a 50mm f1.4, if you need low light capabilities.

I have both your F series lenses and I enjoy them a lot.
I got a used Sigma 15-30 as an upgrade to the 18-55. But I still like the kit, it's so light to carry.
In addition I have many M and K-series primes.

Ok everybody, I am back Appreciate your input. My k-7 needs a wide angle lense for scenery, landscape, real estate work, and general travel. Sooooooooooooooo much information with all the reviews on the lenses-------- my mind going to explode. :-)
Lets not worry about cost. I am good from 50 mm up. No 18-55WR, lets do better.

Help here. 21 mm 15mm 12-24mm ?????

What do you think? Yikes!!!!!!!!!

DA* 16-50 SDM WR

fast f2.8, upgrades your short zoom, and is a joy to use! beautiful rendition, color, and great sharpness. One of my fav lenses.

It is hard to beat the IQ on that Sigma 15-30mm EX DG or its sibling the 20-40mm/2.8 EX DG.

Neither are your everyday walkaround lens, close to 1kg I recall. Thats why I use the kit (when need for wide) or the F35-70 when need just good pics...

I use the DA 15 Ltd.
Good quality (of build and image).
Smaller than zooms, so easier to carry,
and less intimidating for street use.
