Thoughts for another lens by Pentax

Having played with a 135mm F2.8 lens with an M42 thread, I wonder if Pentax would consider this as another Lens in the short term future.

We all know that the 135mm was probably out first telephoto when we had film, but I did not realise how good the lens would be, and how sharp! also, the DOF control was excellent (the lens even has 16 blades for goodness sake). The down side it was slow when focusing on moving objects being manual and an M42 screw mount.

So. My question is, will Pentax consider making a new 135mm prime lens at F2.8 with maybe DA* spec, so us existing users who have the fine manual units can upgrade to a nice fast AF lens.

I know that exists the 50-135mm DA* lens, but in the future it would be nice to have a 135mm fast prime in our bag.

Just a thought.

I have just had a look at CaNikon, and both have 135mm primes in their selection, even at F2.

I just hope that we can get an extended range that we all deserve soon.

I have to agree with you. The 135mm is the one of the few missing links right now in Pentax line up, though i would think they would release an odd ball like 129mm. A PC lens would be nice as well. Personally, I would like to see the resurrection of that A*/FA* 200 macro. All in all, fast prime is always welcome in my book.

Bring back the A* 135 f1.8 but in FA limited style and it will be a killer.

I have the same dream too.

That is just not possible. In addition to that, a fast accurate AF would be a bonus

Bring back the A* 135/1.8 in DA* fashion with SDM and fast AF.

Shouldn't we wait for the incarnation of FA* 200/2.8 and FA* 300/4.0 1st?
Are you sure you do not want the new TC as well?
Let Pentax fulfill their tentative lens to be came available 1st, then we might ask another lens.

I think, when new roadmap is introduced (I believe 2009), i bet there will be DA 8mm fisheye Limited. But since optics technology grows up, it could be not fisheye anymore.

It's just a suggestion for future lenses. I will want the 200mm and 300mm * lenses at some point, but also, having used an old 135mm 2.8 lens, I would like Pentax to consider a 135mm F2.8 , or faster DA* (or even limited) lens to be added at some point. Maybe a 90mm F1.8 Limited to replicate the film 135 with crop and possibly replace the awesome 85mm F1.4 (anyone want to sell theirs?.........thought not....LOL)

At some point I will get the long primes, but not at the moment - The Sigma 170-500 is fine by me.

As for the 8mm, that WOULD be good, better than the 10-17mm and better than my Sigma 10-20mm

I Just hope that Pentax bring out some cracking primes and zooms to use with my K10D.

The 50-135 zoom seems to cover the shorter telephoto ranges nicely at a decent speed of f2/8. Likewise there is a 70 limited, the announced 55 f 1.4 SDM which is the replacment for the old 85, and the 100 macro works well and is close enough for what you would do with a 135. I don't see that the family is short of entries in this range.

Besides deliverying what is on their road map, it would seem to me that opportunities for longer and shorter are more important than holes.

I've been looking for a wide prime, but frankly 14mm doesn't excite me when my everyday lense is DA* 16-50. and I already own an SMC-A 15mm. ON the long end the log jam is suppose to break, but it is hard to figure where pentax has been for 5 years
while certainly the 200 and 300 SDM and the various zooms that head for 300 are significant, but they also stop at 300. while with the gains offered by the crop factor that is long one never has a lens too long when working with wildlife photography. Pentax knows how to make longer lenses.

I think a DA*135/1.8 ED [IF] would be great but only if it would be super sharp wide open with minimal CA. Can I have one at USD800 please?
