What lenses next (K5iis)

Ok, looks like refund will be coming in soon, definetely getting the k5iis w/ 17-70 and 35 f2.4. In the next few months when I have more to spend, should I invest in primes? I'm definetely going to need a wide lens for my Europe trip in April. I like the Sigma 10-20 but I'd rather get the 15 limited due to size, sharpness, and the fact that I can't stand CA. Do square filter holders work well with it, because I have a lot of Cokin P fliters, ND grads etc, also, what prime or zoom should i purchase next? a 50-135 or another lmited?

First lens I'm getting with that bad mama-jama is going to be the SMC Pentax-FA 31mm F1.8 AL Limited. Then later when I can afford to eat again I'm going to get the SMC Pentax-DA* 60-250mm F4 ED [IF] SDM.

There are lots of opinions; search the forum or browse. The major differences as I recall are that the 15 has is small and has excellent flare resistance, but isn't as wide as a lot of people want. I love backpacking in the mountains with my DA15.

Most of the UWA's with the exception of the Sigma 12-24 are pretty good with flare, but the DA 15 is better than any of them. As far as sharpness goes, the DA 12-24 is going to rival the DA 15, and the Sigma 10-20s, 8-16, and Tamron 10-24s are all pretty close in terms of IQ.

In the land of the UWA, it's going to be defined by "how wide do you need" and "how heavy do you mind".

I once one handed a tamron 200-500 for 6 hours, I can handle some hefty glass, but I like the look of the 15 and it looks very solid. The pentax 12-24 is almost £1 grand over here and for that I would much rather get myself a 50-135/2.8

I'm sure you well know that most street scenes in Europe, boulevards aside, dictate that wider is better. I found that the DA15 covers most exteriors very well, but for interiors, the 10-20 was indispensable for me. It does rather depend on what you like to record, though. For more discreet photos of people, I found the FA31 to be very useful, and the FA*24 not far behind. For detail or long shots, the FA77 is excellent.

As you can see, the desire for the right lens for a given situation can be expensive! Beware the LBA my son, the lens that bites, the zooms that catch... (apologies to Lewis Carroll)

I always recommend the 12-24. Software can minimize CA.
