The '31 Might Be The Most Desired Ltd...

but it's also the most fragile. I rarely use it and it's kept in the camera bag at all times, so I don't know why it won't AF at all. It hasn't been dropped/bumped aside from the normal jostling from bag movement in it's own compartment. All the other AF lenses work fine.

How does it feel when you try to focus it manually (with the camera set to MF of course)?

FWIW, my first copy was returned because of a mechanical problem with the screw drive. My 2nd copy is perfect.

It feels a tad coarse and as though it's catching on something. I have CRIS in my headlights.

Don't know about fragile...I've had mine since it was first released about 10 years ago... It travels to work with me daily (42 miles round trip), It's been to Alaska and Northwest Territories multiple times, Florida a few times plus about 400,000 road miles...it has been in the Olympic Mountains, Cascade Mtns, Rocky Mtns, Wasatch Mtns, Tieton Mtns, Coast Range, Black Hills etc. etc. and not so much as a glitch or scratch....Maybe that's why the premium for the first edition made in Japan version?

Have yet to drive over it, but expect it to survive when I do (forever optimist).
