Pentax FA* 28-70mm f2.8

Well just thought I would share this with everyone in case they were thinking of picking one up at a resonable price.

Pentax FA* 28-70mm f2.8 just sold on Ebay this evening for 1625.00 CDN. I was thinking of getting this but watching the last 4 mins of the auction it went from $730 --> $1625 which to me is just craziness.

Maybe one day the demand will come down, probably not!! LOL !!!

I'm going to assume that the situation around the DA* 16-50/2.8 is just magnified on these forums. So, you get the DA* 16-50/2.8 and the DA* 50-135/2.8 for less than that and have more coverage. eBay is just a craze. Seriously, I think winning an auction for some people is like a drug, like a buzz. It's absurd.

Considering the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 Di can compete with this lens very nicely and sells around $349.00 these buyers are nuts. I bought mine after a comparison with another Pentax user who had both allowed me to see the 2 against each other. The Pentax has a slightly better bokeh but other than that the Tamron is equally sharp/fast and quick focusing and you loose nothing with it.

Bought Sigma version of this lens (28-70 f2.8 EX DF) new in Australia 2 weeks ago for AU$250.
Sigma DG (APS-C format) version new is selling for around AU$400.

To think I was complaining about the one B&H is selling for $1500... ya, I'll stick with my Tamron too. ...off topic, but wonder how that 17-50 f/2.8 coming out will be.

I'll tell ya when I buy one Steve. I'm not going to try the DA* again and the resell value of these will be zilch. So That is near the top of my list for this spring.

I think purchasing the Tamron equilvalent is what I am going to be doing! If I can find one in around the prices that I have seen being quoted!

But 28-80 is so goooood!

Let your neighbor buy a new motorhome, you just need to buy the FA*28-80--my way of saying other people's hobbies involve costs, so does yours--oh well. It's truly stunning and I've tried to bump it out of my "everyday" kit several times, but it always finds a way back into the kit. Please don't buy a price tag, buy a lens! I hate that rotating front element, but I love the images.

It's indeed worth the price if you can make the most out of it. At the current market demand, these lenses would not go down in price. There were people willing to pay for this amount so that's why there exist such a price. Rare items do come with extra tag. However, I do hate collectors who are willing to pay a lot for an item, and subsequently drive up the market value. Then they just place it on the pedestal to look at.

After having a look at what Tamron is bringing out ... I doubt I'll be buying another Pentax lens for quite some time.

Now with the 17-50 f/2.8 on the card.
Also the 70-200 f/2.8 coming as well.
And also the nice 28-75mm that I'd love to own myself.
It'd complement my Tamron 90mm SP Macro that I already have (and love).

I just don't have the cash to get any of these unfortunately.

Tamron have been talking about the 70-200mm f2.8 for a year or so. Australian distributors Maxwell promised it by early Feb but the retailers in Melbourne still shrug their shoulders when asked about it.
