That is pentax blasphemy! You will be hearing from the "15mm ltd contols my mind" diciplinary committee.

I seemed to read somewhere that sensor not good past 10mm????????
I have the Samyang 8mm (Bower branding) and works very well with my K-7. It is an "A" lens so I have to manually select "8mm" as its focal length, which shows fine in the EXIF data. The issue with the Sigma not being recognized at below 10mm, is most likely their implementation of the digital communications between lens and camera.

Let's get back to the original question, "15 mm ltd or Sigma 10-20 HSM". I am not concerned about the lens weight. I may be on medicare, but I can handle it. :-)

So I shoot my 16-45 at 16mm and the 15 mm ltd. Is the 15 giving me that more IQ than the zoom for the cost? I am not considering the 8-16 mm. Is the 15 mm ltd a better value & IQ than the 10-20 sigma HSM?

Sorry to be such a pain!!!! I do appreciate your responses.

According to the following tests...

Pentax SMC-DA 16-45mm f/4 ED AL - Review / Test Report - Analysis
Pentax SMC-DA 15mm f/4 AL ED Limited - Review / Test Report - Analysis

The DA 16-45 at 16mm has more barrel distortion than the 15 Limited.

They have about the same amount of vignetting.

Resolution they're about equal.

One thing the tests don't cover is flare. The 15 Limited is really good at resisting flare. So if you have the sun in the frame a lot, that's a benefit.

But...if you really want something wider than your 16-45, the 15 Limited doesn't help much.

I guess that I am not too concerned with the weight of the lens. My F 70-210 zoom weighs 550g and I have no problem with it. My camera is a K-7. I seemed to read somewhere that sensor not good past 10mm???????? So if I would go with the zoom, I am reading a push for 8-16 over the 10-20------ right? I guess I am more of a zoom guy, but that 15 mm takes some really neat photos.

I am not a professional, just enthiast. I am in awe of some pics that are taken.

I've read the sigma 8-16 is overall better than the 10-20. I got mine brand new fo $500 so if you shop around the price diference is not a lot.

You know, my mind says go for the Sigma 10-20 HSM F3.5, but my heart is telling me to be impulsive and go for the 15 mm Ltd. You can only research so much ------- till you go somewhat nutsy. I see great photos from both lenses. I just keep coming back to the Pentax lens even though limited on width. In the long run, I believe that I will get more special photos with this lens.

Thanks everybody, and Happy Thanksgiving to ALL!!!!!!!!!!

One other option would be to rent them and try them out. They have the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC, Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC and the DA 15/4 LTD for rent.

Don't overlook the fun & talented Sigma 15 fisheye, with the field of view stretched out close to a 12mm rectiliner lens. Fast, pretty small, great close-focus skills and full frame friendly right down to the aperture ring. I sought a da15 but found the sigma for a better price; it may not control my mind but few things do.

DA15 is a great little lens. Its the one that always comes with me and usually is the first one on the camera.

The Sigma 8-16 intruiging for how crazy-wide it its. (10-20 was not as "interesting" to me sorry) I only picked up one in the marketplace a few weeks ago and had some fun with it. but there's no way it would displace the DA15.

I think I read somewhere that the K-5 II would support FL below 10mm in the exif data. (K-7, K-5, K-r, K-x doesn't)
I can find out in about a month. Anyone confirm this?

I'd miss not having at least the 10mm that I get with the 10-20mm (old, non-HSM) Sigma. I'm not sure I would have gone for the 8mm given the difference in the filter mounting, although I might have been tempted if I'd found a new 8-16 for $500(???)
