Wide angle and tele dilema

I am planning on my second camera. the k-30.

The problem that I am facing is what lens to get with it.
At first I was thinking of getting the pentax DA 18-135, as it has been praised so much.
But I have noticed that sometimes when taking landscape I need a little bit wide angle.
Because of this I am now considering the Sigma 10-20.

I already have a kit lens, DAL 18-50. Only its not WR and has no hood.
But my guess is that the optics of the DAL 18-50 and DA 18-135 are the same. Right?
What will be the logical choice. I know this is a subjective question but I would like to get opinions anyway.

The optics of the DA L 18-55 and DA 18-55 WR are the same (to within sample variation).

The DA 18-135 is different.

If you want wider than 18, none of these will do
unless you're willing to try stitching.

Folks here seem to like their 18-135s but most of the test results out there aren't very favorable.

If you're looking for a wider angle lens than your 18-55, then the 18-135 isn't going to help. The Sigma 10-20 will help. You might also want to consider the Pentax 15 Limited. Price isn't too far off the Sigma 10-20. Mostly comes down to whether you prefer a small prime, or a bulkier zoom that gets you an even wider angle.

Other folks like the assorted fisheye lenses available so those may also be worth looking into.

i've been always using my tamron 18-250 for the past four years and recently bought a sigma 10-20. Now i realise i could never go out without taking the sigma. It can really achieve some shots that 18mm just can't do.

Personally, I find 18mm not wide enough as I shoot a lot at car and motorcycle shows. I have the DA 15 which I bought for that purpose and chose that lens mostly because of it's compact size. The Sigma 10-20 is well thought of as are almost all of the ultra wide options for our Pentax cameras. The other problem I discovered was that after shooting with a Limited lens, I got spoiled and no longer want to take it off the camera. That said, there is value in a versatile walk around lens like the 18-135 and I am considering buying one and am also considering the Sigma 18-125. Then again, you can get similar IQ of those lenses with a very small footprint with a camera like the Fuji X10 for about the same price. The whole purpose of an SLR camera is the ability to change lenses and IMO, the one lens to do it all thing kind of defeats the purpose of owning one.

Thanks guys for your replies. It looks like decision is going toward the Sigma.
