So, the DA 15 ltd is both sharper and cheaper then the 14mm...
Any off-brand lenses with the same high resolution that are wider?
The Sigma 15 has the field equivalent of a 12mm rectilinear, or so I've heard. Crazy with architecture but fine in the outdoors - in my distorted opinion

Thanks everybody for the replies!

My opinion became extra-biased towards zooms when I had to return two copies of the Sigma 8-16. I tried two, and I was either very unlucky or I'm very picky. I found both to be soft beyond my nightmares.

That is the reason I haven't considered the DA 12 - 24 anymore. My mind is slowly changing though.

Maybe I should just buy the 15 and never look at images from the 12 - 24?
I too received a new Sigma 8-16 a couple of months ago and was not the happiest about it. It auto focused way beyond infinity. Even with a fine focus correction of 10 it was off. I did take someone recommendation to send it to CRIS (repair depot for Sigma, but Sigma also has a NY/NJ repair depot too), and the tech there said that it needed another 35+ units of correction (beyond my 10). So, I left my K5 there for a couple of days while they aligned and reset up the lens to the body. I do have to say now its pretty perfect.

In addition to the DA 12-24, there's also the two versions of Sigma 10-20 (f/3.5 and f/4-5.6), and the Tamron 10-24.

I've done a search and turned up a couple of useful threads, but are there any users of the Sigma 15-30mm on here who could offer some experienced opinions? not a whole lot of info out here about a lens that would be usable on a future FF.

Samyang 14mm 2.8 is very sharp. What I don't like about it is the even number of aperture blades (for starbursts at night). It also has very good flare resistance.
Another option would be Zeiss, if you can find it in K-mount. That's the lens I would be aiming at, except I don't have enough cash at this point in time.

Thanks again everybody for the replies and advice. I bit the bullet and bought the DA 15 ltd!! Jeeejjj! The weather here in in Holland is absolutely terrible though. So, I've only been able to try it out indoors. So no pics yet. I really enjoy the resolution of that little lens! Can't wait to try it out outside.

Some unconventional use of this lens comming up though: One of my clients wanted some studio shots of their personel. Not classic portraits though, the studio backdrop frame, the light stands and tripod with camera all have to be included in the shot. So, basically I just need to make a shot of the studio while it's in use. I think the DA 15 will do much better then the 18mm end of my DA 18-135.

The making of... sounds like a nice idea. Congrats on the DA15, looking forward to see your results.
