DA 35 macro

Anyone buy the new DA 35 macro? I saw that Adorama has it online. unfortunately, it's 600USD.

I was hoping it would be closer in price to the 43mm limited. We'll I guess that may make deciding on a near normal limited prime easier.

Wow, that pricing seems to be like a trend for newer lenses. Getting more expensive with each successive new lens release.

I pray that the price will be re-adjusted

I'm actually saving up to buy it, I even decided to wait on getting a K10 just so I can have this lens. I really want it, but I do hope the price comes down sometime soon.

It eventually will. Street prices for the DA Limited lenses are considerably lower than the MSRP.

Unfortunately, 600 USD appears to be the street price. :-( For those that have been around what time frame would you expect to see a price drop if ever?

If it's at $600, I wonder why one would want it over the FA 35 or the DA 40/ultron 40. The Macro capability, which is the main factor for this high price, is limited at best, especially at 1:1.

$600 is the MSRP.

So, like the DA* zooms and other Limited lenses, prices will drop in time. Even though I want this lens, it isn't a priority of mine, so best to just wait.

No, actually that's a very good price for a macro. It's in line with the D FA 50/2.8 Macro and the D FA 100/2.8 Macro, which respectively sell for $400 and $530 on B&H. So, I see nothing wrong with that price.

i just can't see why anyone would want a 35mm macro lens.. the only thing you could photograph in macro with it would be static objects.. things that don't move.. any input??? i may be missing something..

It's the same reason why some people use a 50mm macro lens instead of a 100mm. We've discussed this before. Just look up the old thread.

Also, the DA 35/2.8 Macro Limited is considerably smaller than the other two macro lenses.

My point exactly. Even with stationary objects, the working distance would be too close to have any "breathing" room. Around this focal length, other brands would have high magnification (greater than life-size) for microphotography, which makes much more sense.

However, one argument for 50ish macro would be the small size for casual close-up work. I would assume the DA 35 will be tiny as its brothers. Thus, the lens might be designed for hand-held close-up (even at life size).

Either way, it's not as versatile as other longer macro lenses. Definitely, close up a shy bug at 35mm would be a challenge (I don't want to say impossible since someone out there will prove me wrong)

Some insects freeze when approached, and are actually easier to photograph than from a longer focal distance, where they think they're free to move about.

A macro lens isn't always about shooting at 1:1 magnification. The 35mm macro will be extremely useful because of the field of view. It would be perfect for food and still life photography where one would typically need a close-up yet have a wide view to establish some relationship/context to the main subject.

Being flat field corrected and probably having floating elements in its construction is what makes it pricier than the FA35 or the DA40. It definitely has it's place and i look forward to it.
