Lots of people were lusting after the DA 560mm 5.6, that is until they saw the price and pulled their horns in.
Prices never stop me from lusting over things. Only when I have the money to buy them does the lusting stop.

The price shut me down completely, especially after all the rumours, comparisons and calculations that claimed the DA 560mm would definitely sell for under $3K.

Hello all,
Just curious...anyone have any info n the 130-370mm zoom coming next year? My biggest question is: is Pentax giving us a big , fast, beautiful, expensive piece of glass? Or will this be a less expensive, slower zoom?
Thanks very much!
I think it's a 130-370/1.2 zoom. It will weigh less than 1kg , fit in a pocket, and cost about $23

A Pentax 100-300 f4 like the Sigma model would be very nice.

Why can't Pentax strike the same deal with Sigma that they have with Tamron, BTW?
Have Sigma ever done joint licensing of designs, like Pentax/Tokina and Pentax/Tamron?

The deal where Tamron no longer makes new lenses in the Pentax mount?

LOL. No. [But what about the new 18-270?]

I was thinking about a deal where Sigma ally with Pentax to flood the world with K-mount lenses. That sort of deal.

Who says Sigma is making new lenses in K mount? The new version of the 500/4.5 is available in SA mount, but not K mount. I don't think the 800/5.6 has ever been available for K mount.

They did just release the 18-200 HSM but the new 18-250 Macro isn't available in K mount.

The statement was that Pentax should make the same deal with Tamron that they made with Sigma. I glibly responded the deal where Tamron makes no lenses in the Pentax mount, because Sigma isn't making very many lenses in our mount, certainly no 300-800 or 800. Also, and more to the point, no 120-300/2.8. Yup, we got a 500/4.5 and a number of forum users have bought that lens.

Tamron in the meantime hasn't released a new lens in our mount that wasn't some miscellaneous superzoom in a long time.

There is, but it appears to cover around the...25-35 range. Seems like it would overlap with a DA* lens for sure.(And be fairly low zoom, to say the least) Though, I think a Limited 20-40 might be an interesting lens, albeit taking us back to the olden days of zooms.

In regard to the 18-270, I wish they'd do more of that sort of thing, if a manufacturer doesn't want to "Waste time" on K mount, buy up rights to produce their own copies. Granted, they'll make less money this way, but they'd keep their smaller customer base happy.(Which seems to be Ricoh's mission as of late)

Edit: Could also be that they're all moving to HSM/USM/SDM/PZM etc..., which no doubt costs a bit to develop for a mount.

Me too. Would be a great gig lens if it was a quality optic. A constant f4 would be OK too. Even an AF version of the SMC A 35-105 f3.5 would do.

I don't know but I add my speculation also. As much as I hope it would be 5.6 at the long end, it most likely isn't. And I guess it's gonna be 100-400 f4-6.3. No WR as it's DA afterall (to minimize the cost and weight). That would make it reasonably small and light weight to take it with you with the 18-135 WR. Kind of what 55-300 is for 18-55 WR. Seems like Pentax is marketing itself for "active outdoor" usage then size and weight matters. Slower long end doesn't matter that much as there is more light available outdoors and the sensor technology allows the usage of high ISOs (easily up to 6400). 100-400 range may be more attractive than Sigmas 120-400 also. I would expect similar performance as 55-300, with pretty good resolution at 400mm@F8. Just my 2 cents.

Would that be a shirt pocket or pants pocket? And is there a rebate offered?
