SMC FA 28-105 f/3.2-4.5 & Washington DC

I have a half day opportunity to visit Washington DC while working this weekend in Washington DC for the first time. I brought along my FA 28-105 f/3.2-4.5 for its lightweight along with my Tokina 19-35 f/3.5-4.5. While I really like the lightweight and wonderfully small size on the FA 28-105, I am yet to confirm if the lens IQ quality matches up to many users' positive opinions. I lack experience in testing a lens for sharpness and I just used it casually as I would like. While I am greatly satisfied with the size and compactness, and I enjoy the color from the lens. But the sharpness seems to have rooms for improvement in my initial tests and impressions Here are few shots that I tested yesterday while under high wind in DC area.

Series #1, all shot hand-held

In general, how do people test a lens for IQ without scientific focus chart, is there easy ways that one would recommend shooting in comparing shots with other lens that I have such as Tamron 28-75 f/2.8. Comments & suggestions welcome especially on your impressions of FA 28-105 f/3.2-4.5 and how would you approach to test the IQ of the lens in a laymen method of testing without going through a formal test lab procedure as done in photozone.de review.

I have a chance to take more pictures and I walked back to Washington memorial late in the evening from Gorge town. And due to the business travel, I packed light and hence without any tripod. I had an umbrella in my hotel and I thought trying it out as a monopod but the idea turns south quickly. I managed to get perhaps one good shot with the help of the umbrella. And the FA 28-105 f/3.2-4.5 is really not for night shooting and here are some shots from the lens with K100D last night. Lincoln memorial is special at night and easier to take pictures than the monument

Series 2
All shots hand-held in iso 400 and 800

#1 1.6 sec, f/4.0, 50mm, iso 400, 0 Ev
I was sitting on the stairs using my knees to support my elbows

#2 0.8 sec, f/4.0, 50mm, iso 400, -1 Ev

#3 1/8 sec, f/4.5, 85mm, iso 200, -1 Ev

#4 1/10 sec, f/4.5, 105mm, iso 400, -1 Ev

#5 1/13 sec, f/4.0, 60mm, iso 200, -1 Ev

And I find it very difficult to shoot in freezing weather. Towards the end of the shooting, I thought long and hard to see the Vietnam memorial, I fell short in energy and stamina to walk over.

I am just amateur and novices not knowing all the techniques but really love the moment in taking pictures and sharing with others. The Almighty does gift me with some steady hands for a reason that I am searching daily trying to glorify Him on the highest whenever I find a chance, He is the reason behind my photos that He is all behind my passion. But tonight, I really didn't do well with many shaky shots in the cold and the umbrella fell short in giving me a hand, and hence many shots in iso 800 with a lot of grain and noise not yet post processed.

I have placed the lens on sale in Marketplace. I think I have it priced reasonable at $175 + shipping. And I add in a free manual flash to hopefully make it a fast sale
