My problem with this lens is when I turn it back from 80 to 28, it sticks at approximately 35. With a little gentle encouragement it moves all the way back to 28. Interestingly enough, when I turn to 80 from 28, there is no stopping at all, just a smooth travel. To give a better idea, when it sticks on 35 it feels as though there is a grain of sand in there. No, I have not been to the coast in years. My concern is that by continuing to use this lens in this condition, I may be compounding the problem to where eventually it will no longer be cost effective to have it repaired. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

As cheap as that lens is to replace I wouldn't worry about it, the cost of any repair is already far beyond the value of the lens. You can find them for $10-20 on eBay regularly, sometimes with an auto focus film body attached.

Use it until it dies or you find something better, there isn't a shortage of Pentax F/FA/FA J 28-80mm lenses in the world.
