Also think of it as cost of lens' and cost of camera body. Feel welcome to also get some of the Sigma sales figures on this one; as they sell very few lens' in the PK mounts compared to Canon, Nikon, or Sony.

The people that typically spend more of their camera bodies also typically spend more on their lens'.

I've sold it, I wasn't happy with my copy. It was a bit off, I'm considering getting a samyang 14mm, but the weight of it puts me off at the moment.

You are right, a good wilde angle would have made a for much better and dramatic photo of all the photogs swarming around the bird! Not to mention it could exagerate perspective and make the long lenses look even more bad ass!

Sigma 300 2.8 6 reviews - Sigma 500 4.5 6 reviews - FA* 300 2.8 9 reviews - FA*600 f4 - 9 reviews ( that's a $6000 lens) - SMC FA* 250-600 3 reviews- ($7000) I lost an FA* 250-600 at auction that eventually went for over $7000. I don't see any lack of buyers for Pentax glass or many of them sitting around for long. For my fortunes, there are too many. The old Pentax FA*s would seem to be still more numerous than the Sigmas.

It still isn't a FA* 600/4 and for the price, one may as well suck it up and get it.

The FA* 600/4 weights twice as much. You may want to use it at at least F:5.6 anyway to improve image quality and get something that resembles DOF. 600/4 lenses is simply not worth it anylonger with the crop factor of APS removing the "need" for a converter and the high ISO performances of todays digital cameras. The FA* 600/4 was designed when high quality images was from 100ISO and below...
I gladly switch mine for the DA 560....
