Pentax-DA 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 ED availability / sample pics?

I'm wondering which is current availability of Pentax smc Pentax-DA 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 ED ? I see it on some sites as possible to pre-order it. On the other hand, it was rumorred to start being available during November. Isn't it anywhere in stock yet?

What about reviews or sample pictures? Does anyone know about something like that being avaialble on the net?(I can't find any...) I know it could be similar in performance with Tamron's 18-270mm, but I would really like to see some review or some picture..

No, it is not available anywhere at present that I can find. There are some people who have played with it at trade shows as I recall but that is about it. Everything I have seen says its a Tamron lens from front to back with the possibility, but only a possibility, that it will have Pentax coatings. So, from a mechanical and optical standpoint it would seem that the reviews of the Tamron 18-270 will tell us a lot. Otherwise we just have to wait.

Don't know where you saw it would be coming in November- the last I heard it would become available in mid-december to early January.

I'm not aware of any sample pictures that are available yet, but the release date for the 18-270 is December 13 in Japan.

If it's anytihng like the Tamron , which you can find reviews for, it's nothing to write home about in IQ, but obviously, it's the kind of lens, if you buy it as your one and only, it will cover more range than any other "one and only.".

Not much to write home about in terms of edge sharpness anywhere in it's range, pretty much done with excellent centre sharpness @ 50mm
