I have a K7 with a 17-70 SMC DA Lens - I can set the camera in Debug mode but I get different values in the LENSEEP.LNS file - does anyone know whether it is possible to disable SMC focusing for this lens?

Yes, I disabled my SDM in my three-month-old DA 17-70 by using it as directed.

The 17-70 is SDM only, there is no screw drive focusing parts in this lens.

Sorry for me beeing rather new to this but why do you disable SDM if there's only SDM and no screw drive?

It was by design, not by choice. Sorry for the confusion, but my comment was tongue-in-cheek. Your exact question was the point I was trying to make. My DA 17-70's SDM failed after only three months of use. The entire SDM system was replaced under warranty, but that one didn't last too much longer than the first one.

It's too bad because the 17-70 produces fantastic images. I liked this lens even more than my DA* 16-50.

That looks like it is unedited version (original).

1. Save a copy of the original lensepp and save it somewhere on your computer so you'll have a backup.
2. Now upload a copy of the lensepp to any media hosting website i.e., mediafire then post the link here and I'll edit it for you (in text format) for you to compare (sort of cheatsheet).

Just have to say a big thank you to the guys behind this fix!

I'm stunned that someone actually managed to reverse the firmware and made it possible to disable SDM. My DA* 16-50, known from the pictures in the previous (temporary) repair thread, is now a last permanently fixed from the dreaded SDM failure.

I'm just curious. Is there a way to do this using the K30? I mean...has anybody tried to access the debug menu needed with a K30?

i was wondering, after changing the code to focus with screwdrive instead of SDM, does the lens focus on film SLR that have screwdrive ?

Yes, it still does. Used my 16-50 on the Pz-1P with no problems after the disablement. I think all AF film cameras are like early Pentax DSLRs: they don't even know the SDM is there! (And my Pz didn't try to "power zoom" with those contacts either...)

Has anyone figured out how to do this with a K-5iis? Or better yet is there anyone in the Phoenix, AZ metro area who has done this and is willing to do this for my lens? I really don't want to have to send it back to KEH, though that is probably what I will end up doing.
