I have tried multiple times to convert a 60-250 to screw drive using this method. I have never gotten it to work.

Neither could I. Only one person claimed to have done it, but no actual prove. I was obviously skeptical.

Many thanks to all contributors to this thread. Particular mention for bennyxyz's post on page 23 whose instructions I ended up following. I used a K100D Super, the only difference being that with this model you first have to enable debug mode by creating a MODSET.459 file and copying this to the SD card per the instructions already detailed earlier in the thread.

I took an eBay gamble on a SDM failed 50-135, boxed with all accessories and in otherwise excellent condition for £130 last week. Successfully converted it to screw drive yesterday and took my first shots today while out for a Christmas Day walk. Its a lovely lens that I otherwise could never have afforded, so a real Christmas bonus!

No probs... summary instructions (detail below):

1. Use PKTether to set camera to Debug Mode
2. Use the memory card "boot file" trick to force the camera to open the full debug menu
3. Copy current lens config from EEPROM to memory card
4. Backup original config file on computer and make required edits in Notepad++
5. Copy new lens config from memory card to EEPROM & test lens works in screwdrive mode
6. Use PKTether to turn off debug mode
7. Tidy up memory card by removing "boot files"

So, here's the detail (a fair bit of copying & pasting from other sources, but worth having it all in the one place)...
Thanks for the detailed explenation!

My 16-50 wasn't really dead but it felt like it was on the way so, using the K-5, it's now as noisy as the limiteds

He said he did the exact same thing - change C0 to 80 on the file. He said after he made the changes, when the lens is hunting for focus at 250mm, it will switch back to SDM, he turn it off and on again, it is back to screw drive (apparently the SDM on his 60-250 is not dead, he just want to try), other focal length is fine. He said he can send me the lens file to compare, but he hasn't, when he did, I will post the (before and after) files.

You lost me!

I made the file and saved to an empty SD card and installed in my K7. I held down menu and turned on and saw the following: Pentax K7; DSP Ver1.12.22.28 ; CPU Ver 1.12.22.28. The screen flashes PC DEBUG and PC VENDOR but does not stop on PC DEBUG.

If everything OK, it will show you all options avaible on Debug mode : IT SHOWS NOTHING ON DEBUG MODE
Beware to not change a thing you do not need ( once again, all this are made at your own risk)

Use the pad to go to the line ?use what pad?
LENS ROM CAMERA=>SD

I think the instructions could be clearer! Please help!

Make a saved file of the EEPROM to allow you to reverse the process in cas of troubles

{{STEP 3}}
To modify the EEPROM, you can
-Either access the LENSEEP.LNS file you create by saving the file, I ask you to use Notepad++ Notepad++ Home
-Or go to the line :
LENS EEPROM READ/WRITE
You can change the code line by line

Using NOTEPAD++ : DO NOT FORGET TO SAVE A FILE AND MODIFY A COPY FOR YOUR OWN SECURITY

I would suggest, reading the WHOLE thread and understanding the whole procedure before you start. I added some pictures to assist, did you see that? https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/208353-how-...ml#post3083922

hope this helps.
