As I recall the 18-200 Tamron is somewhat leisurely to focus, and on a k-01 would likely be slower yet. You can get nice images, though I prefer to add a bit of sharpening in the computer especially for shots 135mm and higher. For versatility they are great though. Here's a shot with mine on a K200d - not tack sharp I would say, but I like the result. Personally I preferred Sigma's original 18-200 but that one also needed some sharpening after the shot.

the wide fast end is much more important than tele, for me anyway,
with 16+Mpixels can always crop the image to get tele effect.
My favorite walk around lens is Sigma 17-70 2.8-4.5 Macro ( non HSM) , can get them for ~$200 used
some of my photos:

DA 18-250 ( or Tamron ) can get for $250-420 used, some of my photos:

new lens : Sigma 18-250 3.5-6.3 Macro HSM ( very similar design to Pentax DA 18-250) , I pre-ordered it for 495.06 ( incl delivery to Australia) , it looks like the price went now up to $549 :
Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Pentax K Cameras
DA 55-300 can get it for $250-400 used ( or DA L even cheaper - the same optics), some photos:

new lens : DA 18-270 , $799.95 , most likely excellent lens:

Welcome to PF. If I'm not mistaken, you post at the[H] as well..I'm a mod there.
AS The others have said, why not get two lenses covering that FL? Will be easier to manage.

I have a SMC DA 18-55mm already and with the 40mm Prime I think I'm covered there. I don't want to give up image quality for range though. I am starting to think about getting a more expensive lense with better overall image quality. I also got a Q and with an adapter I should be able to get a nice high quality range.

Thinking about getting a Sigma 24mm F1.8 EX DG ASP Macro or a Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM or a Tamron 18-270 3.5-6.3 Di II VC.

My head is spinning right now.
