Just a heads-up, Lenstip has posted a review of the 50mm f/1.8:

Absurd about AF.
It's the problem of cameras, not lens.

DA50 is rather fast (and noisy). As for AF accurancy - testers, tweak K-5's AF thru menu!

Back-focus at K10D - is it problem of lens?

I've checked RAW files from DA50/1.8 at f2-2.8 - the lens is good in terms of sharpness.

"It was difficult to determine any concrete tendency among misses the lens provided while working on the K-5; the same amount seemed to feature examples of front and back focus."

That makes me wonder whether this lens might be in some way related to the Canon 50 1.8 II, for which AF issues have also been reported. I would guess there's some sort of bokeh-related issue. At least I have one lens that's managed to false-trigger AF confirm with double contours when set to a totally wrong distance (much shorter in this case).

On any given Saturday afternoon I could substitute any one of my older 50/1.4 - 50/1.7 - 50/1.2, 55/1.8 Pentax lenses an' if no mention of the exact lens was made, 99% of the shots would be indistinguishable . . . if I did my part relative to exposure and use of a functional hood. If you test to the extremes one should also define the extremes.

It would be interesting to see a real-world comparison of similar images from older lenses for each test. (Might also improve the reputation for older glass -- which sets the standard by which we judge new lenses.)

This tester let me wonder if he knows how to test a lens :

" Second – the autofocus. The tested lens deserves to be called a manual lens because the inaccurate, whirring noisily autofocus mechanism is good for nothing."

My K-5 was the same...I've sold it. But it's not DA50 problem.

Strangely enough I did not find serious focusing issues as written in review. (I posted some pics and video). Focusing feels slower than FA50mm but it was not disastrous at all - spot on and no back/front focusing. I gues It's K-5 or just bad lens copy.

If the tester was smart, he would have used Liveview to eliminate the front/back focus.

I've found that most of the time, it's not really an issue of front/back focus (of course, once it's calibrated more or less correctly)...but that the AF sensor's area is sort of large (at least, the center one, I never use the others).
