i think f/16 is more than fine.....f/11 should work too....f/32....man..ur shutter's gonna be ultra slow...(dependant on the light of course, but..im thinking seconds in terms of exposure time...)

of course this all depends on other variables....amount of light..what else will be in the picture aside from the landscape..etc, etc, etc

No lens is "sharp" really at f/16 or f/22. The small sensor means diffraction starts at f/11-16 and smaller. No need to win the lottery.

F8 is your best bet on most lenses, although some have been shown to be sharper at faster (and slower) apertures.

Usually lenses perform at best 2 stops down the maximum aperture. So f2.8 lenses perform quite well around f5.6 or f6.7 and f5.6 lenses perform quite well around f8 or f11

So on film bodies, you might want to go to f32 with certain macros or landscape with very slow films like Velvia 50 etc

Do you mean 2 full stops, or 2 steps on the aperture setting? And while I'm at it, what is the difference between each step in the aperture setting, a full stop, half stop, other?

I meant 2 full stops rather than 2 steps.

Some good quality lenses would reach peak image quality by stopping down one full stop.

Put the lense on the K10D, poke the little green button and the lense will talk to the camera and tell it where the best quality aperature is optimized. Example 18-55mm kit lense f4.5, DA50-200mm lense f6.7.
