It's a good idea to sell the FA50 to get the DA*55. And if you don't need the single 18-135 lens for situations where you don't want to or can't change lenses, then it serves little purpose either.

No, it's not LBA, unless you don't want to expand your photography. As critical as photographic techniques and other factors are, the DA*55 (or an FA77, DA*200, DA*300, or similar) will allow you to do things you can't do with your current kit. The FA50 (either the f/1.4 or f/1.7) is virtually worthless wider than f/2.0-2.2, whereas the DA*55 is very good at f/1.6-1.8 and usable at f/1.4.

You should get either the DA*55 or FA77 - you'll see neither one is redundant with what you have. Even though I've now traded it out for an FA*85/1.4, the FA77 is the lens that most changed my approach to photography.

Great lens, can't go wrong. If the price was better, people would jump all over it.

I jumped all over it because the price was right. Manufacturer's full retail is about $200 over what it should be. It works very well on a K5.I have had Super Tak 8 elements (four of them), a non SMC 7 element (very yellow), M and A series 50 1.4's as well as the A 50 macro 2.8. The M and A's were sharper than the Taks. The best 8 element version was later in the series (a 157...... serial number) but the 7 element one worked better than any ofl the 8's. The DA is as sharp (if not sharper) than the best of the previous group, focuses for you, has a quick shift feature for self adjusted focusing, has a hood that increases contrast and is very flare resistant and weather resistant. The focal length of 55 is, IMHO, more usable than the 77 ltd for indoor work.

Did you have to do any AF Adjustments? I got my lens on Christmas Eve, but was out of town.. So i just started messing with it today. So far I like it. I have had to adjust the AF +2 on it. I also notice purple fringing all the way up to 2.8 after that it goes away...
