Lenses choice for K-5

Hello everyone,I am a newbie, bought K-5 three months ago, got kit lens 18-55mm. I also have an old asahi ME Pentax with 50mm 1.7 lens and Takumar 70-200. Those are old lenses, but in a way usefull for me to learn. Now the time has come to buy a wide angle, and I also wish to buy either 24-40 or 28-75 lenses for portraits. Recently I have been searching for my choice extensively, also here, and I know there are lot of subjects on these lenses I am asking for. But, as for wide angle, 95% of the time following lenses are mentioned: Pentax DA 12-24, Tamron 10-24, Sigma 10-20 and Sigma 8-16mm. As I understood those are all new lenses, but still is a narrow choice. Anyone is familiar with older, good, sharp, even MF wide angle lenses? Or 24-70,25-75 ones?

Also, I have around 500-600 euro for lens, would like an advice since I am newbie - is it better to buy one good lens for more than 500 euro (wide angle, since Im really missing 10-18mm range) or go for ex. two cheaper Tamrons 10-24 and 25-78 together, because I am really into portraits, buldings and nature shots?

Thank you all in advance!!

Get quality lenses for the tings you know you like or else you will be buying new lenses again over a couple of years.

I like portraits as well so went for the DA*50-135 when i traded in the DA 18-250, later i bought the DA*16-50 to compliment it. This my main set now together wiht a couple of primes.

I rented the Sigma 8-16 for a few weeks. I enjoyed it, but it is a specialty lens, wide-open it's a rectilinear fisheye - so it's use will be limited. I don't know if I'd choose it if I were just starting to fill out my lens collection. I'm not sure it fits really well with an initial strategy.

Here's a few shots:

Hi guys, thank you!

@Anvh, those are great lens, I'm sure they rock. Hope to have them when I catch up with things, up to then I really only need some good enough lens so I don't regret of missing or getting wrong some good moments. So, if you know any good ol' wide angle (from 10mm on, no fisheye), please tell me I have two oldies, 50mm SMC 1.7 and Takumar 70-200 1:4 (I don't know hot to feel about Takumar).

@Ter-Or, nice shots man! Im set to 10mm, and not as lucky as you to have an rent a k-mount lens store any near. Im really on torture here, medieval style, cuz I cant hold&test any of the lens I will soon have prior to delivery, and Im new to dslr. To be honest, even the price is low, like for some the wide angle like Tamron, it is still high when compared to really great older lens (all the way back to MF), and that was the main point of my thread, to find out what great k-mount wide lens (possibly from 10mm, and portrait ones, especially in something like 24-70 range) someone could remember in lets say two decades back. Figured out that if Im going to choose between Tamron or Sigma, will go for Tamron, i.e. cheaper, dont really mind anything on good photos, especially pixel size details

For wide angle 10mm just get the old version of the Sigma 10-20, so with variable f-number and without HSM but those things aren't that important.
Good lens and a good price since it's the old version.

These? Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC J Autofocus Lens for Pentax 201109
now this is a better price, thank you.
Set my mind on Tammy 28-74, and have to make a choice here. Thanks Anvh!
Ps. Also if anyone knows some older lens that outmaches this Tamron 28-75mm, I will be the most grateful.

Thank you man, you opened my eyes on sigma lens, I was mostly reading comments about them, which were, as I perceived- 60% bad, 40% good. Now, when I got more into sample photos, I see its good lenses, just what I need.

There are bad copies of any brand lens - no doubt... and we are usually quick to hear about it on this forum.
I have two Sigma lenses 50 f1.4 and 17-50 f2.8 zoom. Both are brilliant lenses.
Buy what you need and i won't worry about getting a bad copy especially if you purchase it from a reputable dealer.
All the best!

Thank you bestzoom that is how I figured out too.

Anyone familiar with 17-70 Sigma 2.8-4.5, macro, no HSM? I presume this lens is ok, but cant find it with these marks. Is it worth 250-300 bucks with 60dollar UV filter? Found it in Croatia so its a cheap shipping for me.

Sigma doesnt seem to play so nice on canon i believe but on Pentax they seem to be quite reliable.

Just got my Sigma 17-70 2.8-4-5, paid 300 bucks, used, really excellent condition.
This is the 1st photo I took right now from my window. There is a purple glow in shape of disk and balls of light around the tower. Cant really judge what is it, or is this normal, just bad position? Anyone has a hint?

Looks like flare (internal reflection) off the bright light in the rail yard.
