The F 50mm f/1.7 is a great lens, well thought of. There is also an F 50mm f/1.4 but it is much rarer and I think mostly a collectors item at this point.

In manual 50mm you have a very wide range of possibilities, just in Pentax, much less third party ones. I have the A 50mm f/1.4 and while it is a great lens I do not see much difference between it and the F model, but that's just my eyes. For the same price or maybe a bit more I would get the F because it has autofocus. But if you don't mind manual focus then the A model is fine. And if you don't mind complete manual then you can look at the M series or the K series or even look at the Takumars. S-M-C Takumar 50mm f/1.4 is really really good.

The F 50 mm f/1.7 and the A 50 mm f/1.7 lenses are sharper at F/1.7 and F/2 than the A 50 mm f/1.4 lens. Things even out by f/2.8. If you don't mind manual focusing, the A 50 mm f/1.7 lens is the best value of the bunch and still communicates with the camera so you can use AV and SV modes.

Thanks for your replies. I lost the auction in last minute, but instead bought a 55 1,8 pentax.
I dont mind manual focus. I hope this lens is gonna work for a while. :/

Do you have any other lens suggestions?

You have no idea what trouble you just started with that line..

Of course we have more lens suggestions. Look in my signature. That's what happens when you ask questions like that. Seriously stop now while you still can. Once you have LBA it is too late. Your life will revolve around watching ebay auctions, visiting thrift stores and estate sales hoping for a score.

Its to late. I already started to hunt on swedish ebay and used market sales. And in the summer i guess i will be hanging on garage sales
And i bought a 5-6 lenses and then i realised that its better to get s few tips than randomly just go off on all auction at the same time.

I found the lens data base now. I guess i will be starting to look for the takumar 50 1,4.
The takumar 90 2,8 and a wide lens.

HOLY SMOKES, JATRAX!!

That is an awesome F-collection, and has to be the most amazing F-LBA display I've ever seen! You have a serious affliction, Sir.

Read up on Takumars before you start buying. They have a long history and changed significantly during their life span. My collection is all S-M-C (Super-Multi-Coated).
In order they are:
Takumar
Auto-Takumar
Super-Takumar
Super-Multi-Coated Takumar
SMC Takumar

The value is usually higher on the later models but some of the early ones command high prices as well. S-M-C and SMC have multi-coated optics, not as good as today's but state of the art then and usually quite good. You will find you need the hood as well because it makes a big difference, more than modern lenses because modern coatings are better at reducing flare.

A few to look for: 50mm f/1.4, 55mm f/1.8, 85mm f/2.5, 105mm f/2.8 those are my favorites but there are not many duds in the bunch. If you want some advice stay away from zooms of that age, modern zooms are much better.

Thank You And I just added the F 17-28 for Christmas but have not had time to take a new family portrait.

Like I said LBA is a slippery slope..........

I spoted a takumar 55 1,8 (first edition i think) in an auction with a takumar 28 3,5 and a vivitar 135 2,8.
I guess i could be worth a bid considering its starting at 15 bucks. And a pentax spotmatic is sold together with the lenses.

Seems on the testpictures the takumar is complementing the pentax k series with different kind of pictures

One other thing to keep in mind when buying m42 lenses. Make sure they have an 'A/M' or 'Auto/Manual' switch. The switch must be in manual to work in modern cameras. The auto was for some models of m42 cameras. This does not matter for pre-set lenses (Takumar) but it can be frustrating to get a lens and find you cannot use it.
